yea i think im gonna change it a bit more before i finish cutting it out, probably make it a bit wider at the top of the short side my friend told me that it looks like an elf shoe, now thats all i can think about when i look at it

well i dont really know my acoustic terminology that well, but the flat piece of wood with the hole in it, its splitting from the side of the body, dont got any photos but it sorta looks like this _________--''' |___________| <-body <-neck i googled LA guitars and it came up with this custom guitar shop in LA and they make some pretty interesting guitars, but im not sure if it came from there, all i know is his dad got it from a work friend...

k so when i bought this guitar from my friend it had some fatty cracks through the holes where the bridge pins go, so i decided to fix it like this. i was just wondering, what kind of glue would be best for keeping those little buggers in place? i know thers gonna be alot of tension here so i gotta make sure itll be able to hold, and as soon as im done that i can refinish it and finally ill have a new guitar to play

k so a friend of mine has this weathered guitar, id say maybe 15-20 years old its made by LA guitars and hes selling it for $50 the problems are: the seal from the faceplate and side is seperating at the bottom the bridge may be busted and need replacing other than that, the fretboards in good shape, the headstock is fine, and the neck is pretty damn straight do u guys think this repair is worth doing? i dunno much about LA guitars but i wanna be able to sell it for possibly $150-$200 once im done everything, so should i go ahead and buy it?

yea i laid out all the tuners before i drew where i want them, and there is enuf clearance under the bulbous part.. and btw my last name is stonoga which is where i got stono-caster from, that way i wont be getting any lawsuits from fender

alrite well heres what i made of it i made the left indent a bit smaller and made the long side straighter, and dont worry, thats not gonna be the final design on the end, i just wanted to see what it would look like with anything, ill worry about it later edit** alrite all fixed up now, i think it looks good im going to go the the wood shop right now to cut it out

yea it probably would be better with 4/2, but i already got the tuning keys and theyre 3 a side, i was thinking of staggering them, kinda like this O .....O O .....O O .....O ______ ill change it a bit and lay out the tuner heads, ill post a new pic tomorrow when im done this, ive kinda been busy lately rebuilding my charvel to work much on my new one, i just want a guitar to play that isnt my jackson dinky

this is the headstock that i designed for my stratocaster that im building, i took the conventional strat design and kinda added my own style to it the keys are gonna be 3 on each side, (gold of course) and possibly thinking of adding an inlay of some sort in the round section on the top i just want some feedback on how u guys like the design plz vote 2 = likes it 1 = needs some work 0 = dont like it and if u dont like plz make suggestions on how i could improve it

so if i were to just leave it the way it is and dont put anything, wuts the worst that could happen? does it just improve the quality of sound?

hey im ready to finish my custom strat, but before i paint it i was taking apart another guitar that i have, and realized that theres this thick, black almost rubber like paint on the inside of the electronics and pickup cavities. is this some kind of special paint to reduce the chance of fire or something? i just dont wanna finish my guitar then suddenly have an electric malfunction or it suddenly burst into flames (that would be cool but would be a waste of 6 months of work)

DONT try and radius ur fingerboard urself, get it done by a machine or buy a radiused sanding block DONT sand too far into the fingerboard so that ur fret slots are useless, trying to deepen them with a coping saw just doesnt work as well as you would wish I had to convert my neck into a fretless neck just because of those two mistakes, im still on my first build but im making my 2nd neck now

just tightned the tremolo springs on my jackson dinky, but now i get fret buzz like mad and after holding a straight edge to the neck i noticed the first fret and last 3 frets were only ones that were touching, can i fix this just with the truss rod and if so do should i tighten or loosen it

i doubt that its worth that much, i only bought it for $80 from someone who bought it for $120 a few years earlier, i cant find any model number on it anywhere, besides a big 33 in the neck pocket which doesnt mean anything. Ill post pictures of it and close ups of its problems once i get a camera working..

the prewired pickups i was looking at before were from stewmac or lmii, and the cheapest they had were 80-100 bucks, but this site looks way better and i wish i had known about it before i bought the stuff i got right now, although i dont see any fretboards for sale here, im gonna need a pre-slotted one and a truss rod as well. the reason a stripped the neck in the firstplace was cuz the guitar is about 30 years old, if not more and practically had no finish left on it anyways, and im gonna fix this guitar up completely its got quite a few things wrong with it. and as for the finish i head that linseed and tung oil are good for the fretboard, but should i use a diferent kind of finish for the back of the neck like something thicker that will give it a nice protective coating?

alright i got a bunch of questions about my current projects, so as may as well just ask them all in the same topic.. jackson charvel rebuild: 1. what are some decent pickups that i could buy for this model? i dont want to spend too much cuz i plan on reselling it and i probably wont get as much as i hope for it, but i hate these jacskson pickups, they sound too twangy and high pitched plus theyre ugly as sin... would it be a bad idea to buy one of those prewired pickguards for $100? i wouldnt buy one for a guitar i wanted to keep but i really dont care about it that much, plus its missing a knob and if i buy one of those ill save money and save the trouble of replacing the knobs... 2. ive sanded the neck down and its ready for refinishing, wuts the best kind of finish to use for the fretboard? the neck? Stratocaster build: 3. this may sound stupid, but are the controls diferent for HSS strats than SSS strats? ive already bought 2 tones and 1 volume for my HSS but i just want to make sure im not building it wrong. Thats it for now but i need some feedback before i start ordering parts again, i dont want to have to place more orders than i need to to save on shipping.. thx

hmm i guess i could try that, the crack doesnt go completely through to the back fo the body, and just as i was taking a look at it i realized that the other side the exact same thing is starting to happen, so it wouldnt hurt to replace that part as well, this guitar is a bout 30 years old and i can tell nothing has been done to improve it or keep it in good shape since then, now i just gotta wait for a day when it isnt raining to get started on it

well im having a bit of problems with finishing my custom strat so until then i went out and bought this Charvel for $80, its got the same body shape as a stratocaster with a diferent headstock but the problem is its made by jackson... this guitar is definately a project guitar, the fretboard needs re finishing, and the neck and body are filled with chips and scrapes and its even missing one of the tone knobs (but still works even though the wiring is incomplete) But when i took it apart the other day i realized that there was this fatty crack that stretched from the pick up cavity to the tremolo bridge cavity and goes right through the bridge pin as well so it doesnt fit snug and falls out when i tip the guitar upside down.. What would be the best most effecient way to fix this crack? cuz it has a serious affect on sustain and tone. Im getting some new tromolo springs and new pickups and hopefully ill be able to sell it for a profit but nobody will buy it if they find out its got a fatty crack, please help...

hey im almost done building my custom stratocaster and i was wondering wuts an ideal height for the nut to be above the fretboard? or should i install the frets first and see how it sits before worrying about the nut?
