  1. i would like to take it in and have a tech look at it but im actually flat broke right now, any income i get goes straight to snowboarding as its a seasonal thing...

my bros got a gibson and an epiphone les paul so i can still play when hes not around and my dads spending up to a grand on my grad gift and i think ill use it for a used american strat pretty soon

how would i go about measuring the relief without any special tools? i think that would sort out if it is actually twisted or not

  2. so your saying the only way to fix it is to take off all the frets and sand the fingerboard to counter the twist? i dont really have much money to blow right now and im just trying to fix it up so i can try and sell it, im getting an american strat soon but right now this is my only working guitar

is there anything else that i could do? like heat it up and try and twist it back or just clamp it to a table in the right position?

what if i shimmed the nut on the bass side only, i think that would work for a quick temporary fix...

  3. ok so this is what ive done..

i adjusted the springs first to make the bridge as level as possible to the body

loosened the truss rod, pretty much tested it with every single position possible

set the intonation on the low E string (it was a bit sharp)

raised the action even higher than it was before

i even shimmed the nut a little bit

and what would you know, IT STILL BUZZES!!

so i take the strings off take off the neck and look down it, and oh ****, where did that big twist come from, well its not that big but big enough to make a difference

when looking down the fretboard from the bridge side, the headstock is twisted about 1/8" counter clockwise so the bass side of the nut is low

is there any way that i can fix this? or should i go down to L&M and get pissed off at them for selling me a crappy guitar cuz i dont think that will achieve anything

  4. well this was my first guitar i got new about 3 years ago, and if i would have known more about guitars back then i wouldnt have bought it, ive been fiddling with it since trying to get it set up nicely, it wasnt bad about 4 months ago but ive been playing it pretty hard lately and would like to know how to set it up myself, ive already taught myself every other aspect of the floyd rose and this is pretty much the last thing i hafta learn, ill post again after ive tried again to set it up

  5. k so i got my jackson with its floyd rose copy and ive got some really bad fret buzz on the low E, B and high E strings, from open to about the 7th fret, the action is really high to and i want to fix it now.

the neck is nice and straight so the only thing i can think of is changing the scale length of each string from the bridge to try and make them tighter so my question is...

to do this should i make the strings longer so the string will be tighter at the same note as it would be if the string was a bit shorter? or is it the other way around?

  6. alright now im confused, when i took the old pickups out there were 4 wires, the red and white were tied together and taped back which would be north/south finish, the black was grounded which would be south start, and then there was a green one (north start) which was the hot one attatched to the 3 way..

the new pickup only has 3 wires, if i were to tape back the red and white ones and use the black as ground, what do i use as the hot wire/north start?

cmon i need some response, the soldering irons already hot...

  7. im using a golden age humbucker i got off of lmii a while ago,

i dont intend to leave it the way it is, im gonna put the original ones back in when i want to sell it, i just figured i should see how this pup sounds since i wont be completeing my home made guitar anytime soon and since my guitar sounds like farting into a dijeree-doo.

Figured i should get warmed up to this whole wiring thing anyways.

On my pickup i see 1 black wire with 1 white and 1 red wire spliced out if it.. is the black wire the N and S finish already taped? if so how do i know which is N and which is S of the white and red?

  8. hey im finally fed up with the sound that my jackson js-30 is capable of, so ive decided to take out the 2 stock pups and put a single humbucker that i bought for my current build in the bridge position.

Can anyone hook me up with a wiring diagram i need to make this work with 1 vol and 1 tone pot... i guess i leave the 3 way switch out of the wiring?

this is the first time ive done any guitar wiring so any help is appreciated

  9. hey im finally fed up with the sound that my jackson js-30 is capable of, so ive decided to take out the 2 stock pups and put a single humbucker that i bought for my current build in the bridge position, can anyone hook me up with some a wiring diagram i need to make this work with 1 vol and 1 tone knob... i guess i leave the 3 way switch out of the wiring? this is the first time ive done any guitar wiring so any help is appreciated

  10. alrite well i was at my old highschool disrupting grade 8s to use the shop, so i was kinda rushing and i accidently routed the truss rod channal too deep by 3/32" not a good start on my new neck...

i figured if i left it the truss rod wouldnt work, so can i just take a strip of any wood and glue it to the bottom? or should i use something else..

  11. I don't know why you felt the need to swear in response to someone and it took me all of five minute or so to find this, but this should help ya....... http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopi...44&t=380078 look at the first pick, that looks like what you showed us...

sry i wasnt swearing at the person, i was swearing at the american government, i live in canada but if i lived in the states i would probably move away...

theyre watching me right now arent they :D

  12. yaa... umm no that doesnt work

i dont need no american government bullshit anyways i just wanna find out where and when this guitar was built, ive done 2 hours of surfin the web and i havnt even found a guitar that looks this one or any other similar serial numbers of other jackson/charvels.

im begining to think either this is a rare/custom guitar or some home made knock-off

  13. yep turns out it was a complete piece of ****, the sides were splitting at the bottom, the rossette was chipped, the fretboard and the body was full of chips and the bridge was completely ****ed and needed replacing

i talked him down to 15 bucks, but i still decided not to buy it, i offered him 5 bucks to smash it right there on the spot but he refused :D

  14. alrite well i was pretty drunk when i was looking at it so i gotta take a second look at it but i dont think im gonna buy it,

BUT if i do decide to buy it, whats the process of re-attaching the sound board? is it as easy as some glue and some tieing it down to a board with some string?

i dont think the bridge is out of alignment, it just looked that way cuz of how the soundboard is sitting, so if i do decide to buy it, ill post some pics on this thread in the near future
