  1. Most typically, the hot wire should come from your three way switch. Do you have a wire from each volume control going to the switch? Yeah, I have the two wires going into the switch. One from each wire. There are four wirse on the switch. I thought two were grounds and the other two were for the volume pots.
  2. Okay, so where does the hot wire come from? And does the ground just go from the lug to the back of the volume pot?
  3. Alright, I'm wiring up my Hagstrom HIIN today, and it didn't work. So I would love some help from you guys. I'm only trying to get the humbucker sized P-90 in the neck posistion wired. The guitar has 2 volume, 2 tone, and 3 way switch. There are 2 wires coming from the pickup. I connected the hot wire (white) to the neck volume, connected in turn by a diode, to the tone pot. The bare ground wire, is connected to the back of the volume pot, as a ground. The switch is connected to the back of the volume pot, to the output jack, and to the pickup. Should there be another connection to the output jack, because there are two things there, and only one is used. There is no sound at all when the guitar is plugged in, any ideas?
  4. Thanks Southpa, thats a very informative site.
  5. Just a quick question about the idea of grounding to a coin. My guitar has all the wiring done on the pickguard, similar to a strat I guess. There is a coat of what appears to be a foil, covering the cavity. Should I still use a coin as a ground, or is that what the foil is there for. I'm really new with this stuff, and I don't want to mess anything up. Also, if I do use a coin, where does it go? Do I just place it in the body, or to I solder it also?
  6. When I said tap I didn't actually mean like a slap. I do lay the screwdriver down, and remove it. Not a smack or anything, smoothly.
  7. I did some more voltmeter tests. I connected the red humbucker wire, to the common socket, and the black to the VmA socket. With the screwdriver on the coil, I get a positive reading, and when I take it off, I get a negative reading. This happens on both coils on the pickup. Should it? And what do the readings mean?
  8. On the humbucker two wires, the white and green are already connected together. They came that way, and they are brand new pickups, never before used. So are they the series link? Also, does the silver, bare wire go to ground also? Along with one of the coloured leads?
  9. I have a Hagstrom HIIN which I am installing new pickups in, as part of my restoration. It's my first time doing this, and I don't want to screw it up. The guitar has two tone pots, two volume pots, and a pickup switch. I do not know the wiring of the pickps, as its not a name brand, and it did not come with a schematic. I've tried to follow this article http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/pickupwiring.htm but I'm not sure how to do it. In the neck I have a humbucker sized P-90. There are only two wires coming out of the main lead. A Black one and a white one. I connected the wires to a volt meter. With the black meter lead conneteced to the common socket, and the red meter lead connected to the VmA socket, I connected the black wire from the pickup to the black meter lead, and the white pickup wire to the red meter lead, and when I tapped the coil with a metal screwdriver I got a positive reading, and when i removed the screwdriver I got a negative reading. What does this mean? I can't fully understand the article. I also have a four wire conductor humbucker, with black/red/white/green wires, as well as a silver ground wire. I do not want to wire it for split coil humbucker, just standard. How do I determine the wire schematic for these pickups. Anybody want to take the time to help me out, this project is very important, and is taking much longer then I had anticipated, and I really want to play that guitar. Thanks!
  10. Yeah actually I'm fixing it all together. It need alot of love. The neck was split down the center, it came unglued I guess. I have a tech fix that. I'm installing new tuning keys, pickups, and a bridge. And well a new nut, and knobs. Eventually a refinishing will be nessacary, but I don't have the time now, nor the money. When I dowel the holes, and drill out the new ones, will I need inserts to fit the post. After all the posts are threaded, if that makes a difference.
  11. I've been working on my Hagstrom HIIN for quite sometime now, and am just about finished. I have the pickups set to be installed, the tuners ready, all that's left is the bridge. But there lies the problem. The bridge rest on posts that do not fit in the pre exsiting holes from the old bridge. The spacing is fine, it's just that the posts are not the proper width and depth. I am set on keeping the bridge, as it is the right look, and a bridge that was highly recommended. http://www.wdmusic.com/tune_o_matic_bridge..._24827_prd1.htm This is the bridge. Any ideas as to how I can fit it properly. I have been told to fill the pre-exsisting holes with a dowel, and redrill, but I can't figure out how that would work.
  12. I'm finishing up the work on my guitar, and I've become stuck with regards to the bridge. The guitar is a 1972 Hagstrom HIIN, that needed, pretty much, a complete overhaul. I bought this bridge http://www.wdmusic.com/tune_o_matic_bridge..._24827_prd1.htm and it won't fit. I was suggested this bridge by quite a few people, including people at a guitar store. The problem is that the posts are to narrow and too long to fit the existing inserts in the hagstrom. I was looking at some conversion posts, but was not sure if they would work, as I am unaware of their sizing. Any suggestions? Thanks, Paul Healey
  13. The problem is that pickups are not generic - since every manufacturer uses their own color coding system, it's impossible for anybody to tell you how to wire any given pickup without knowing either who made it or what the color code for that pickup is. Did you get any info with the pickups? ← No man, no information. Is there anyway to test the wires to see if which one is which. Also, would the two that are connected, be like that for a reason?
  14. No man, the pickups are not GFs. I also don't have the codes, or at least I don't think I do, what are they?
  15. I have two generic ebay bought pickups that I am putting in my Hagstrom. I am restoring the guitar, and no pickups came with it, so I bought a humbucker for the bridge and a humbucker sized P-90 for the neck. Both fit the guitar perfectly. I would like to know how to wire these pickups. The is a Hagstrom HIIN, and has two volume and two tone. It has a toggle switch, and a mini switch that I would like to use a a coil splitter for the humbucker. The humbucker has a Black wire, and green wire connected to a white wire, and red wire, and a silver/grey one, with no rubber. The P-90 has, black wire, and a white wire. Anyhelp would be great
  16. Hello everyone! I am almost finished restroting my Hagstrom, and I have to fit a new bridge. This means that I have to fill the two holes left by the old bridge. Then I have to drill smaller holes for the new bridge. So, I need to know how much trouble it is going to be to fill in the holes. Should I do it, or let my tech do it?
  17. Yah, I had planned on refinishiong it anyway, and I'll be sure to keep you guys informed.
  18. http://storage.msn.com/s1pZ8pl_R1n1zH3PVlz...695017406840784 Thats mine, I have a type of strong glue designed for wood but I can't remember the name of it. My dad's friend is a carpenter and suggest that we use that stuff.
  19. I have an old hagstrom, that has a split neck. The neck is split perfectly in half from the headstock down about 40% of the neck. Is this fixable, the guitar store who is looking at it wants big dollars to do it. Can it be fixed at home? Thanks Paul
  20. Hi everyone, my name Is Paul, and I'm new here. I have recently been given an old Hagstrom HIIN from my friends dad and it is very much in need of a new finish. The finish isn't beat up by normal wear and tear, but has big scrapes and white out any everything. I would like to know how to go about refinishing it from start to finish. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Paul
