I think it's a much better option than to sell the company to whoever and watch the quality go down, taking your name and reputation with it.

Also, if you use UV on nitro it will yellow unless it has UV inhibitors. There are people who put a newly cleared (and cured) guitar in a tanning bed to age the finish.

But onto the body of the post: Has anyone ever thought of putting a pickguard on the back of a guitar?
My old guitar teacher played a Gretsch Country Gentleman with a snap-on back pad. I always thought that was a great idea. YMMV.

No need to pay $11. Click here. Just don't be in a hurry.

That's a catchy theme song they got there.

no thank yous???
Dude, I get picks a dozen for like 2 bucks. Every time I order from Musicians Friend I add on a pack.
totally off topic but, the quote in your sig is Eisenhower, not Abrams (I'm not even sure who he is)Best I can find there was an Abrams in the korean war but I can't seem to find any Abrams in WW2. Care to enlighten?

You can buy preslotted nuts but they require final shaping and slot adjustment.

Again, I'd keep this guitar as original as possible, but now I'm pretty sure a refin would increase the value. I think you have the right idea about gluing and clamping the body back together. Others on this board have experience with the procedure. As far as restoring screwed-up Gibsons, look here. SGs are his thing, but you might get some ideas.
Also, here's some info I found on the RD. You have a rare bird there.

I think my name is Glaswegian for "smartass" ... or "dumbass" ... never mind.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and make a prediction. As vintage Gibsons become more rare and higher priced, the vintage market will expand to sustain itself. There's already evidence that it's happening now. I think your $30 RD, if left in as close to original condition as possible, might be worth many many times that in just a few years.
My advice is proceed with caution. Go easy on the refin (preferably not at all), and if the guitar needs a refret, have it done by a qualified technician.
Two cents worth of free advice.

Ok, the USA is on the left, the MIM is on the right. The MIM standard 21 fret neck ends approximately where the 22nd fret would be. The overhang on the 22 fret USA neck is just a bit longer. You can see in the side-by-side that there's not a lot of difference.
On the bridge, the spacing difference is only 1/16 on either side, so it's not that much. If you use a vintage style 3 saddle unnotched bridge you could probably use any brand you want.
EDIT: If you're stuck on using the flat modern USA style bridge plate, Callaham makes excellent replacement parts.

USA standard 22 fret necks have the overhang. There are very few models that have the non-overhang 22 fretter.
Warmoth lists this info for known incompatibilities:
Roadhouse Strat® - 22 fret, no overhangBig Apple Strat® - 22 fret, no overhang
Lonestar Strat® - 22 fret, no overhang
Nashville Tele® - 22 fret, no overhang
Fat Tele® - 22 fret, no overhang
Fat Strat® - 22 fret, no overhang
Heavy Metal Strat®
Heavy Metal Tele®
Jagmaster® - Unknow specs.
EDIT: As far as the bridge goes, I don't know where you've been looking but I've seen several places that list different bridges for USA and narrower import spacing. Fender lists different ones for different models. Here

Did you think to look up the PG members in Oz and ask them specifically where they get their stuff? It's worth a shot ...

Maybe a good front shot of the body would help, but try looking here.

Even better, look here. Click on a color and you'll go to a page with 2 different representations of the color plus the DuPont code and original application info. Any automotive paint supplier should be able to fix you up from there.

Are you following the official PRS guide?

Hate to bust your bubble, but that doesn't look like a Gibson to me. Compare the bridge, headstock shape, inlays, truss rod cover, etc. to this.

Check out this thread. Lots of help there.

I guess the good old and dense wood is getting harder to find?
As is craftsmanship or quality control worth anything.
Well, this will be a seven string so I don't know if the low b is just going to flop around if I went for 24.75. I also down tune which only makes it worse.
So basically you want a 7 string baritone RG/LP?

To repeat something that was mentioned several posts back, there are horror stories around here about people who funded a neck build only to be put off and put off and eventually lose their money. The members here are actively trying to help you avoid that. If anyone has misinterpreted your needs or intentions, well, better that your money is safe and that we're sorry.
