but the one pic per post i think is bollocks.
Well frankly it doesn't really matter what you think. lol. Kevan has set it up this way and we need to respect it.
Now that's my kind of thinkin!

Wow! That's an amazing factory finish! With spray cans?
I'm sorry. I just couldn't help myself.
Seriously, it looks great.
-
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd just as soon the pics not be over 600 wide anywhere they're posted.

Nah, my wife always heads em off at the pass.

I was looking at comparison tables on a site. If I was gonna spend that kind of money on a machine I'd better have plenty of solid orders lined up.
-
Not really. Take a look around at any good straightedges, and you'll probably be paying at least StewMac prices. I've heard that the StewMac ones aren't as accurate as some other brands, but that's another story. Straightedges aren't cheap. Period. That's why I just use a good ruler or a square. Not quite as accurate, but I don't have that kind of dough to burn right now.
My dad's a retired machinist with a boatload of tools. Guess what I've got my eye on?

ok I talked to him last night and he says forget the whole punk thing. He says he wants a guitar than can play alot of styles. I sugested a tom anderson droptop. What do you think of tom anderson guitars? I havent played one personally but all my favrite bands play them and all I've heard is good things about them. I heard one live a couple of times and it sounds freakin awesome played through a matchless or badcat amp.
No offense, but you guys must have oil wells in your back yard or something. You're talking about some change there.
A guitar (or amp) doesn't have to be expensive to sound good. Technique is always the biggest part of it. (Maybe I'm in the wrong forum to say that ).

i agree i have scrathes to but as long as she plays like she does im happy as can be, and i have always thought a worn guitar looks better than a new one. it adds character thats why i like srv's "lenny" so much
Not trying to hijack, but are you sure you mean Lenny? Number 1 was the beat to hell sunburst. (That Famous Guitars t-shirt is wrong.)
If I misunderstood, apologies in advance.

My friend asked me for some advice the other day on what would be the best punk/rock guitar for $1500? I dont really know what guitars are good for those styles as I play diffrent stuff. So what would you recomend for that price range?
He might just buy one of the ones I'm building now...
Been thinking about it, and it's a no-brainer. Really.
Tell him to find one that feels good and sounds good to him. Doesn't matter what other people think, or how much (or little) it cost.
What's the point of spending the whole $1500 on something he might end up hating because it's uncomfortable or sounds like bat crap? Just because someone told him it was a good punk guitar?
If $1500 is the budget, I'd find something for a lot less and spend the rest on other gear.

I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (40w, 1x12). That thing is LOUD. Seriously, I can't turn the thing up over 2 or 3 without blowing the band off the stage. Outdoor gigs, maybe up to 4, but inside, not over 3. And that's with my guitar at 3 or 4 and the volume pedal at maybe half.
I know another guy who has one(we play a lot of the same places), and he never turns his up any more than me.
The other guy in my band has a Peavey Classic 50 that's loud too, but not LOUD.

Why am I here? I just love guitars. Looking at them, holding them, playing them ... ahem.
I figure that even if I never build my "perfect" guitar, how much more fun could there be than messing around with your favorite thing, and talking about it with people who 'get it'?

Time to get started on the Tele, so I decided to make a webpage to keep track of things.
Here we go.

I hope Jeremy has a sense of humor ...

So far, so good.

Yeah, and hang a sign around your neck that says "BRUCE WILLIS' BROTHER."

This stuff sticks to plastic furniture, old milk crates, toys, etc. Maybe it would work on a pickguard. I'd try it on a throwaway first, though.

OK first of all, this thread has been growing sillier since page 1. Prime example of written words not coming across as the author may have meant them (and it would be obvious if your were speaking to them in person). No offense to anyone involved, but I think it may be time to let er rest.
I think we can all agree that compensated nuts rock and zero frets suck. LOL.
Maybe that's why it's called a zero fret.

I'll be looking for some pickups for the maple tele I'm building, when I get the dough. I've checked at local music stores, can't seem to find the best of both worlds. One place offers brand new pups but for ridiculous prices. They have to order from the states and then tack on their profit/shipping charges, huh, I may as well cut out the middleman and order them myself, if I go that route.
Another place showed me a box of "previously enjoyed" pickups. No idea where they came from, what kind of outputs they have, resistance ratings or even if they work for that matter!
Since this is an all maple guitar I might be looking for something a bit unusual in a tele pickup.
Here's a guy up north of the border. I bought some strat pickups from him last year. Reasonably priced and they sound decent.
-
Anyway.. an unsolicited recommendation.. I bought a set of premium boutique overwound tele pickups from GuitarFetish on ebay. They are absolutely top notch in every way. They are wound overseas but designed by this dude and the build quality on them is absolutely amazing. I have tested them some in the sound department and the sound very nice.. Haven't done any full out playing of them yet.. I've heard nothing but good things about his product though. I think I gave 85 bucks for the two.
Man, I've been going back and forth trying to decide whether to take a chance on the GFS pups. You just made my day. Thanks.

Works for me.

A Wilkinson is probably a drop-in. Keyword: probably.
I had a Contemporary Series Strat years ago with a Kahler Flyer that sucked biguns, so I replaced it with a Wilkinson. No problems.
-
I like it.
That said ...
It's probably just me, and I know the objective is to show off the finish, but a guitar just doesn't look right without strings.
Drilling Holes For Bolt On Neck?
in Solidbody Guitar and Bass Chat

How deep to drill into the neck?
After you've drilled the heel and marked the locations on the neck, put one of the screws through the neck plate and the heel. Measure how far it sticks through, then wrap a piece of masking tape around your drill bit the same distance from the end.
Low tech and works every time.
