  1. Did somebody mention Satch autowah? :D

Personally, I think with Hendrix's spontaneous Woodstock version, with it's timing, power and slightly cynical feeling for the listener in the context of vietnaam, it will probably never be topped.

What is with the look of intense concentration on Joes face? He looks like he is playing some super complicated passage. Give me a break. He basically played the thing straight, except for the noted auto-wah.

What was that thing he had his foot up on?

  2. When did he turn into a stereotypical redneck?

right about the time he went off on his own.

i used to like his work with ozzy quite a bit,but now it just seems like it's all about the image.

I think it's more likely all about the alcohol.

  3. So ok, after you get all them switches onboard and figure out some cool sounds and when to use them, what do you do when you break a string or a connection comes loose or some other unforeseen Murphy-esque thing happens in the middle of a set? Pick up another guitar just like it? Stop the show?

Ok, so no gigs? Studio only? Why not a different guitar for different sounds?

What, no studio? Bedroom warrior, eh? What's the point?

Yes, I'm contrary and argumentative today. :D

  4. Voodoo. Pure voodoo. In the 70s everybody "knew" that a big heavy brass bridge and nut on a big heavy Les Paul was the ultimate in sustain. Made a lot of chiropractors fat and happy.

So then, EVH's hacked up Frankie should have a huge "doink" factor. The basswood Jems should be even doinkier. Chambered LPs should just be burned. Swamp ash? Pfft. Driftwood. How about all those Strats and Teles with humbuckers? Boat paddles.

IMO, this quest for "sustain" is bogus. You should be after "tone" and preferably "technique". :D

  5. I'm working on a Frankenstein strat project with a mahogany body. The body is routed for standard 3 PU lay-out but I'm going to fit only two PUs in a tele-style. The scratchplate will only be cut for 2 PUs.

Should I fill the empty cavity with something or just leave it empty?

If I should fill it, what with?

    Many thanks!

    Adam

Fill it with cheese. Something not too runny, if you know what I mean. :D
