1. Dude, there's nothing wrong with wanting the same or better gear as your friends. Hell, I'm way over 40 and still find myself getting into that with the other guitar player in my band (he has a lot more/better stuff). But the best "revenge" is always to be a better musician. Not just a better guitar player, a better musician.

    I'm done now. :D

  2. he bought 6 strats. Gave three away, the other three he mixed and matched to form Blackie. Yes, i know the story. he bought them for about 300-400 each. Well then a Clapton style body. If someone just has the demensions i can get it CNCed.

Yeah, I know the story too. :D

Anyway, did you try John Fisher/Tirone's "How to Build ..." thing? He tells about how he got plans and laid them out and everything. Here.

Short of just finding a good used body, that's what I'd do.

But, as always, that's just me.

  3. Exact fender strat. Standard or the Blackie, as in Eric Clapton's Blackie, body is great. I dont mind either one. I just want it to have the same shape. The electronics is all taken care of, from the old members might remeber i asked frequently about Blackie's electronics. I can paint the body too as well as get the headstock set up. I need just the body.

    Thanks,

    Monkey

    Ok.

Strat body dimensions changed over they years. AFAIK, the main differences are in the belly and forearm cuts (forgetting the cavity rout nightmare). Body thickness has more to do with the cheaper imports than anything else. I think.

I'm sure you know the story: Long about 1970 or so Clapton walked into a joint in Nashvegas and bought a hundred old Strats for about 12 bucks or something. Some he gave away, some he kept. Some he took apart and rebuilt with much more better parts from others.

Seriously, do "Ebay> All Categories > Musical Instruments > Guitar > Parts, Accessories > Bodies > Strat." There's a ton on there. For what you want at the price you want, that's your best bet.

    :D

  4. Hi PG,

Well i am looking for just the body of a fender stratocaster. Now, i want the exact body measurments as the fender strats, but i dont know if the squire bodies are the exact same. I tried to find out if they are, but no luck yet. Also i dont care if the body has paint on it or not, becuase im trying to make a Blackie guitar and i have paint to do so. I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to buy an exact copy or right of strat body for about $100 or down. Also, Brian if you read this, is your economical bodies the exact as the Fender's.

    Thanks,

    Monkey

Please PM if you dont want others to know a site or something that you dont want other people going to.

Ok, are you making a "Blackie" or a "BLACKIE."

I mean, are you looking for parts to make an "exact" copy of the Clapton original or just something that looks & sounds like it?

There's a big difference, and the answer just might depend on how much money you're looking to spend.

Maybe that's the place to start before any other questions.

    But that's just me.

  5. Alright, well ive ran into some problems and i have some questions. I went to route out my guitar body and ran into some complications. When i started this project i bought a set of templates for the JEM and the template that i was sent does not match all the demensions of the pdf instructions on on floyd rose home page. The templates are only off a few mm. I thought maybe he was just giving me some room to work with, but thought i asked first cause this is my first time installing a tremolo. So what do i do? Do i take the pdf demensions and use them or the template demensions and use them? Also how big is the heel on the back of a bolt on neck cause i need to route my neck cavity and dont know how far down to route it.

Just wondering ... Is the template routed for an Ibanez trem? Are you using a 'real' Floyd? Are the dimensions identical between the two?

I'm pretty sure that the different variations of the Floyd-style trems are just that. Different. Of course, as always, I could be wrong.

How about some help from the experienced guys?

Gotta love that Jet carriburst. Too bad the only dealer listed is Ed Roman.

  7. I was waiting to see what the real builders had to say, but here goes.

IMO, you're on the right track. Mask off the sides of the fretboard for the color, then just the top for the clear. To my thinking, the clear seals off your paint line and lets you have a smooth transition between the painted and "bare" wood.

I did one that way and it worked out pretty well. As a learning experience, if nothing else.

  8. That's the great thing about this forum. Everyone here has an opinion about how to get the perfect sound. No one is right, and no one is wrong.

Just do what you need to do to get your perfect sound, and do it with whatever it takes to get there.

As far as a sound clip of that particular pickup, I guess just find a song by someone in that vast stable of artists who gets the sound you like and find out how they do it.

I think you'll find that it's not just the pickups, but the wood and the amp and the effects and the EQ and, most importantly, their fingers.

    That's my 2 cents, anyway.

    :D
