I had nothing to do for the last 4 classes of "wood-working" or whatever it's called, so I started building a guitar body. It's not done yet, but on it's way...
-
You're absolutely right about the two dead spots not being nice, but it would work.
And having 1 wire on 2 contacts is afaik common-place. I've seen it in quite a few guitars.
-
I'd guess you connect the pickups' "hot"s to the two "outer" "thingies" on the pot, and the middle "thingie" to the next thing (output jack, for example).
-
You should be absolutely fine with the Ibanez switch. Just figure out which "thingies" (sorry don't know the english word...) are connected to which thingies when the switch is in a certain position. And figure out the same thing for the type of switch used in the scematics.
The coil splitting must be done through wiring the pickups to the switch in a certain way. It can't be the switch.
What a funny thing:

Ok, I got the cap some time ago. As far as I can hear, the clean sounds warmer, or fuller with the new cap than with the original, and with distortion it sounds less muddy with the new cap. If anyone wants recordings of the guitar before and after the change, just give me some way of uploading the stuff (can't mail it, too big), and I'll get to that in a few days.

This would be a great thing to have here on projectguitar.com, wouldn't it? Then people could just post about their experience with one type of wood, and it could be added to the list. Anyone agrees?

My first thought is "Why not learn English instead? It's more versatile.". However, I do understand that not everyone has the time and resources to do that. But I'd like to see any translation more as an aid to learning english than a way of spreading the info.
I'm Swedish, btw, so I won't be able to help with any translation.

/me hides in a corner, saying "I didn't do anything, I'm innocent!!"
Someone else then me and my family noticed it's my birthday. Cool! Thanks guys!

It seems I'm lucky.
I just went out to my workshop, and looked for sanding papers of suitable grits. I found a few pretty fine ones, so I brought them in, and started trying them out. All of them just made it far worse. However, I tried using the clothed backside of one of them, and using that, I got it back to where it was before I started sanding. And, it looks as if I can get it even better, if I just keep going.

Is it possible to power one superbright LED off of just the power going into a guitar
There is no power going into a guitar. The pickups generate the power that drives the cabs. Though there's usually a pre-amp and a power-amp between the guitar and the cabs, to make it meaningful to try and hear it. But there's no power going into the guitar.

I don't know what type of finnish was used on the guitar (I'm at least the third owner, and it was made in 1990 or so), but the cleaner "Contains flammable petroleum naptha". So I guess that's it.
I'll probably see what I can find to polish it up, and if I can't find any suitable material, I'll just live with it. Thanks for the help!!
-
Doesn't work. It seems that the cleaner was kind of corrosive or something.

I was just sitting in my room looking at my guitar, when I for some reason wanted to remove some of the scratches that earlier owners have created all over the guitar. I picked up a..... argh... what are they called? foam thingies?? I just can't find the correct word... and tried polishing the scratches. What I didn't remember was that this "foam thingy" had been used for applying some fretboard cleaner to the neck of this guitar a few weeks earlier, so now I've got a nice spot on the guitar that is really dull. Does anyone have any idea what I can do about it?
-
www.gmf.se seems to be a useful place. Though their descriptions certainly lack detail. But they might turn out useful, so thanks!

If you've got any ideas for weird body shapes, now is a good time to try. The body I'm building is going to be back routed, and it's kind of a mix between a BC Rich Warlock, and a Jackson RR3. Kind of... It's not harder to do a back routed guitar than doing a front routed guitar, so don't let that block out your creativity/taste. Just decide on something that you think you'll like.
-
I'm currently building my first guitar, which at the moment is only a hand made body, which will have a factory made neck, until I have the time and money to build my own neck.
I would recommend you to get some rather cheap wood and stuff, and build both the neck and the body from scratch, so you get some practice. If you're lucky, you'll have a nice guitar made from cheap wood. If you're not that lucky, you'll have experience of the whole process, not just parts of it.
-
You could do the board-cutting yourself, if you have a big bandsaw. Or you could suck up to the woodshop (is that what it's called?) teacher. Or you could find a real "saw" (you know, one of these big places who do this for the industry).
-
Yeah, please tell us what it covers, and how detailed it is.
I currently can't see anything I need to know to get my first guitar finnished, except maybe for the painting stuff, so I'm wondering if there's anything useful in that book.
-
I use D'Addario XL 11-49. But I have no experience of any other strings. I bought a pack of three sets of these strings because it was cheap, and I've had no problem with them so far, so I'm going to stick to them.
-
Don't worry about you being inexperienced, we all have been once (and I am still ). And, yeah, more angles would be cool!
-
Loki, you don't happen to know the place www.maxforums.org, do you? (Wondering if you are you or if you are someone else...)
-
I'd go for: 1 4 3 3 2 1 4 1 2 3 3 4 1 (the 3s beeing one finger over both strings)
-
weezer, have you ever tried cutting a tree down with an axe? it takes pretty much time. sure, something that doesn't have to be thicker than enough for a neck could probably be cut in an hour or two, but if we were talking bodies, it would take more than one night.

i have never heard of any such spray paint. couldn't you get metal dust and spread it on the paint?

yeah, a new switch is probably worth it, all I was saying was that the original switch could be used, as opposed to what Scott was saying.
