  1. ok, so i've had this idea for a while and now i have a chance to act it out...

what if i was to take a thin top,say flame maple, and cut out flames(fire) on the ol' band saw(already did this part)

then could i just glue it on the the bodyand sand, shape, fill, it in.........

i've already cut the top a while ago out of boredom and spare wood.........

  2. Carvin are 1/4", you can either drill the old ones out with a forstner bit or drill the center with a 1/8" and pry them out. But since you whent thru some, you will have to drill them out anyway.  Once you do, just drill enough to set the new do in place, about 1/16". then just file the new dots down to the fingerboard.

I did this one like that. It had black dots and I changed them to MOP, But next time just take your time and don't go to deep.

did you paint or dye or what that f. board, it looks great....that whole different kind of great....

i suppose if it's paint it's paint becuse your not on the f. board?,so it won't ifff up?........

  3. this is from a talk with Karl Sanders of NILE(yea!!!!!!!!!!)

"well , on the plus side, there is plenty of NOTHING under the string -

where your fingers would normally slam into fretboard , there is now just air. Consequently, the note now has nothing to do with the string touching the fretboard , it is only making contact with the fret itself.

To my ears this yeilds a purer bell-like tone -

also , since your finger is no longer hell-bent on sqeezing the strings all the way into a hardwood fretboard,

you only need apply enough pressure to gently touch the string down to the fret. ( any more would push the note hopelessly sharp)

So you can actually relax your grip a little bit.

But this is a double edged sword -

since there is no appreciable functioning fretboard to stop you,

you can very easily play WAY out of tune -

    and sound quite horrible. "
