Hey thanks for the comments, its a very versitile instrument 23 pickup selections so a wide range of sounds can be achieved.

Heres some new pictures taken recently, I made a few changes last year, New frets, and pickgaurd mainly.

Also in August in UK ill be holding a meeting for these guitars, I had about 30 people last year! was a great day!

- Rs Restoration Talk, by a well known member of the board, will also be bringing his Homemade guitar, which Brian May himself has tried. Talking about the involvement he had with the RS restoration and also visiting Brian's House.

- Building Talk + Presemtation - I will have a full size body of an RS which you can see the Chambers, The Oak cores. I will have a Laptop running with pictures on slide show with presentations on it all day. I will answer any questions anyone has about building, so please come and bring your projects!

Well these were a freebie i must confess, werent my pickup of choice! There good, not as bad as i thought they would be, the May sound is there, but for the price of £129 i wouldnt buy them.

If your interested in what I normal use, Adeson Pickups are a 60's repro of the burns tri's. £90 for 3, wired to BM specs.

"Also if you don't mind me asking, how much was the hardware from our forum member?"Ooo well this is a though one, it was a while ago, i think the price was around £300 + for the tremolo and Bridge. Knobs were £30... there are cheaper alternatives, all of that information is on my website, if you would like to take a look.

Awesome! always like those kind of projects! someone made a rickenbacker crossed with the redspecial! was very interesting, so it will be also interesting what you come up with!

How does it sound? Well its brighter than my other 2 red special copies, i think mainly because the bridge is now on top of oak, giving it more sustain and resonance in the acoustic chambers. The sound is great all amped up il find out in july what it sounds like at full pelt on an ac30! lol

Red Special Mark 4.

This was the next step up from mark 2 + 3. Mark 3 was sadly sold a few months back on ebay due to financial reasons.

Mark 4 is a major step forward in the right direction, in terms of build quality, finish, and playability.

With this guitar, I started from a new sheet of paper, more information on construction became available so I decided to go back to nothing. The shape of the body is a major improvement to Mark II as I think most can see. Neck shape and headstock shape again are totally different.

In terms of construction, this time better Blockboard was used from Travis Perkins. The Oak core on the bottom layer remained the same. The top layer was slightly different starting from the tremolo cavity and going as far as under the bridge.

Hardwear this time came from Tim in the USA, I have had a tremolo from Tim before, this time I also ordered a Bridge. Custom made to my designs which are available on this very forum, Tim worked his magic and created some wonderful parts, the workmanship on them is amazing and the quality cannot be faulted.

The electronics remain unchanged where as the Pickups are different. New Brian May signature pickups were used. These are available from Allparts UK.

Overall. This is one of the best guitars I believe I have built to date, there are probably some minor details to improve upon but for now I’m very happy with it.

Thanks go to Tim, for some brilliant parts, Filipe for the Lacquering service, and thanks to Andy at Allparts for the BM pickups. And also thanks to Chris for helping out on a few bits and pieces.

- Binding 0.60 Allparts cut down to 3 mm deep.

- Mother of pearl inlays 6 mm

- Side dots white plastic, side lines left over binding.

- M8 (8mm) Bolt to attach neck to body.

That helps alot cheers, I was going to re rout the f hole to sharpen up the edges, I brought some very thin flexible binding to do the f hole with.

Hi all

I have posted here before with various guitars i have built, this time its a bit different as i need a little advice, All the guitars (this type anyway) which i have built have had binding round the edge.

But this guitar Has an F hole in it...

if you know its a Brian May guitar, what i would really like to do is Bind the F hole but i am a little unsure of how to go about this and how its done.

So i guess i will be asking you guys any tips how to go about this?

ya its all custom hard ware.

the thing with thiis trem (knife edge tremolo) is that you can go a whole optive lower when pushin the arm down and return in tune, which it manages to just do at the moment, as the springs are so stiff they need to ware in.

i can post a diagram of how it works if you like?

the guitar is fine

it does not rattle buzz or anything like that open or playing it plays fine.

headstock is 4 degrees

neck pitch is 2 degrees

theres nothing to change as it plays fine anyway? it intonates correctly..

why would i changet it?

theres an image of the nut, just an ordinary Bakerlite nut, with zero fret so the nut acts as a string guide, in effect,

Maybe it's just me, but the saddle placement looks kinda ... off.

Yes the the bridge is to the original design back in the 60's, you won;t of see it, Its was machined by a friend of mine 3 mm rollers stainless steel and aluminum saddles.

The 6 white switches, the top 3 nearest the pickups are the pickup on and off switchs. The lower 3 are the phasing switches so you can get all kinds of sounds and tones.

I don;t come and post here very often i usually watch. Well i have been building this for over a year, had alsorts of problems due to its complex construction and interesting new bits.

after 1 year and 4 months 2 necks, alot of rustins platic coat and alot of fretting lol no pun intended it was findally finished HARRAH!

Now i can look at me telecaster! oh and ther green special lol
