I just removed my idiotic comment
wow I can be stupid...
sorry

parker ewww Both of us hate those things. I love the feel but they sound so lifeless. He has a lower end PRS but he hates the higher end PRS models.
Have you seen the new tom anderson atom? It's a all new design made for the David Crowder Band. It has the same body shape as the crowdster (also made for the David Crowder Band) And the atom rocks!
But who knows he might just buy one of the guitars I'm building now. That all depends on if I get them finished on time
Uhh I am certainly punk...
and uhhhh,
Steve Jones played a les paul custom.....
Most other punks play either strats with a humbucker ot teles....
it's relly not a proper way to "be punk" buying a 1500 dollar guitar...
buy a 400 dollar guitar . 500 dollars of spraypaint and 600 dollars of beer.
that's punk.

Wow great this seems doable..
I'm located in upstate NY.
there are a few sawmills around local.. mau be I'll talk to them about cutting..
and again thanks.
..
here's the next issue.. I live in snow country.. so I am guessing that I'll need this stuff stored at a t least a certain temp...
I'll do some more reading at the links given to me
-
I use wood that has been air drying for like 20 years and I think it has supperior results. Now I know you dont want to wait that long But I have heard (correct me if I'm wrong) that you can air dry ash for 1 or 2 years and it will be ready to use. Now thats not such a long wait
That's actually realistic...
I would like to have a stack or two of these things around just waiting to be used.....
how does one stacke these what are "good natural conditions" to have this stuff dry in?
I'm learning alot from here and the web it's great
I love it....

I guess that I would either saw it lumberjack style or with a chainsaw (I'm kinda afraid of them but I know people that aren't)
I am building a house that has tons of huge ash trees and a bunch of cherry trees as well...
si I figured that I could use it....in a few years...
I have made a guitar body from a blank before...
but the wood was ready
-
sounds like you've got a guitar builders dream there. cherry makes an absolutely beautiful looking and sounding guitar. i love it with a hand rubbed oil finish. if you can incorporate crotch wood into your blank you'll be amazed.
I have friends that burn wood in the winter..
would placing the wood in the general area bet the same /?
-
when i make Didjes i go collect the wood and throw it in a small, back room in my basement that i stored a few propane heaters in ......it gets kinda expensive, but the price of the sold didje about breaks even.....
i wouldn't really recomend it though,i've craked about 10% of the ones in there over the years....
Interesting...
a few more Questions...
Supposed I had access to a kiln (through my old hirh school) how long would I have to beg my x art tracher to fire it up for?
I have a forest of ash, maple and cherry.....
Is cherry a good wood?
I have stacks of that dried and un cracked....
You guys rock....
thanks..
-
How does one go from tree to guitar? as far as the "wood curing" process goes?
I have aforest of ash and a new found love for strats...
as I remember wood always seems to crack when it "ages" after cutting....
How does one remedy this?
thanks
-
yeah, bummer. Well at least you can use the neck as a template, and you may be able to reuse the truss rod and tuners
"allways look on the bright side of life...>"
I agree,
The most valid thing when it comes to a project is time.
you can re build it you can !!!!!!!!!!!!
EUW YEAH!!!
ROCK ON.. (Sorry, I've had a few beers)
Rebuild and kick ass...!!
-
Just got my hands on a new Stew-Mac strat neck...
is a Squire Affinity Stratocaster "full size and width?"
If so that would be a cheap way to get a nice axe going... right?
-
Wow man sorry to hear that...
;(

ive seen a guitar like that, originally a 2 hum lp turned into a 3 hum, the standard 3 hum black beauties from gibson have the same scale as the regular 2 hum lp's so they hafta fit
MzI
It'll fit.. but my pick always whacked into mine (center pickup)
so think twice it your a rocker.
OWWW Yeah!!!

Are you comparing the body to printouts? Or dimensions written on the CAD files?
My '83 LPC:
17 1/2" long
13" lower bout
7 1/8" waist
9 1/4" upper bout
YMMV...
The guitar is a "stellar mercury 2" as seen at
www.stellarguitars.com
The quality is quite bad.. the binding is "blindingly white and the neck is unevenly shaped (along the back side)
Well I guess that a few small measurements being off is what makes this guitar look "not good"
it's as follows.
17 1/4 long
12 1/2 lower bout
7 1/8 waist (that's on)
9 1/4 upper bout (that's on too)
so over all the "ball" part of the body is quite a bit smaller..
it REALY makes a dramatic Diff compared to a "real" guitar...
Anyone else see one of these?
I hope it is returnable.. or I'll go insane
-
A neighbor of mine had a very old les paul, don't know exactly what year but he has had it forever, but he has moved within the last year so i can't ask him for sure, from my recollection, the body was smaller, very noticably smaller, and it was heavy as hell. Might not be tha same year les paul but i can at least tell you that yes, there is a certain les paul that is smaller, dont know what year but I have played on one. Hope that helps. As far as getting dimensions, I don;t know that answer.
Anyone else with tny thoughts? on this?
-
OK Just bought a les paul custom copy to do some experimenting on.
and the body seems smaller than any paul or epi I've ever owned..
I downloaded some 58-60 les paul cad templates from the mmimf.com library
and the dimensions are right on.
Are customs smaller?
Or am I crazy??
or is my copy a toilet.....
OK,
I measured an epi les paul standard and the "ball" end of the body is larger...
so the question stands..
Are both set's of plans and my copy wrong or are les paul customs of the 1958-60 vintage smaller ...
?
thanks guys

For what you say it is, I'd pass. Not that it is a bad axe or anything that just isn't any bargain. But if you are doing a friend a favor, whatever. Just remember: No good deed goes unpunished.
Yeah I think that after some research the guitar is not a prime specimen.. (it's natural but has an "orance hue to it)..
not my thing...
-
Yeah I just never heard of soulmateguitars.com before I posted my Guit on ebay ;(
oh well desiny is desting..
If it sells I'll be building a custom strat (I do already have a de'armond m-75 les paul type uit that plays and sound GREAT...
)))
-
hehe yes I never use them soI have always called them "twang bars"
I know i'm pathetic :D
-
well..the neck and the fit of the neck MAKE the guitar.
so i bet if you are that close you may be able to drop your body off and let him take the measurements needed for a great fit..and then your guitar WOULD play like a dream
If my Guit does not sell on ebay I am going to have a mahogany 59 paul type neck with ebony fretboard and NO inlays put on it...
so it kinof like I do NOT want it to sell ???
-
...google.com. Then photoshop it.
Im just kidding. But in the future, please search here and on google.
I did some intern programing for google in school...
I'm familiar with the page..
but I did not find "high quality" fender logos .. the sort needed to make a print out... or develof a font type.

Hmmm, what kind of ash do I have ...
I found a few cool tid bit son how to dry this stuff (thanks to the links you guys added)
and it seems like if I have the stuff I may as well try to do this....
cherry takes much longer to dry I believe but it is REALLLY nice looking wood.. so perhaps that's worth it too?
