  1. Hey guys!

Its gonna be a real shame to let this one go but i simply just don't have the time needed to get it in full running order :D

For sale or Trade here is a Marshall Valvestate 100V (8100) and the associated 4x12 Cabinet.

The head features 2 channels, both with separate controls. The Clean has an option to turn into a "Crunch" channel and the boost channel has either one stage or 2 stages of overdrive, selectable by a button.

The boost channel also has a contour control (along side the normal EQ) allowing for more control over the tone from the boost channel.

It has dedicated jacks (send & Return) for an effects loop, with an option to cut it by -20DB and a control knob next to it to decide how much of a mix goes into the signal

Each has its own little problems none serious but enough to warrant me taking it out of my gigging rig.

    Head

First lets get the bad out of the way

The head is in working order but does have some issues which for someone gigging as often as i have been lately, don't want to risk taking it with me.

The Master pot is very scratchy and unfortunately, sometimes will sit in a position (especially around 2/3/4) where it will just cut out.

However, once its in the right place, (few seconds worth of patience) it will be fine for an entire set, i just don't like the idea of taking a risk of it cutting out mid set (hasn't in the 5 gigs its been to mind you)

When using the Line out, it sometimes becomes scratchy however I'm not sure if thats related to the master pot, further investigation would turn out the answer but as i only use a microphone to record my stuff, it doesn't effect what i do.

    AND THE GOOD

This head I've found is very versatile, the clean on it is nice and warm whilst the crunch can be used for some classic status quo style sounds.

The 2 different boost channels allows for a range of tones, OD2 does allow for a lot of gain which is suitable for those screaming solos whilst the normal OD1 is similar to the crunch channel on the clean selection, just with a little more "bite"

The Reverb is subtle and really opens up the tone especially on the clean channel, i rarely go without using it now, especially when recording.

The head supports 2 cabinets allowing this to be used as part of a full stack should you wish to buy another cabinet

    The 4x12 Cabinet (straight)

From a sound point of view, it cant be flawed, it sounds amazing even when cranked and does allow for a lot of head room. This 4x12 Cab is the one that was released to go with the Head unit.

Only issues with it are aesthetically with the Marshall logo now saying marsnall ( :D )and a few rips and cuts in the covering of the cabinet.

The cabinet does have 4 wheels on which does make it easy to move about, I've had no problem using it to get them to the car or moving about on stage so they're a big bonus.

    -------~~~~~------~~~~~------~~~~~------~~~~~-----~~~~~

For trades I'll be looking at another half stack setup so no combo offers please.

From a sale point of view, I'm not sure yet so open to realistic offers, and we can work from there

Due to the weight, I'm not sure if its feasible to send this via couriers so local pickup may be required (or meeting half way for instance if its long distance)

    Thanks for looking B)

  2. Hey again guys

I was at college today talking to my old electronics teacher about my amp (just in general as hes a bit of a guitar nut as well) and he asked if i had a schematic for it as he wants to look it over to see what modifications he can think of doing to it.

So guys i ask you, does anyone have a link to an accurate schematic for my "Marshall Valvestate 100V Model 8100"

    Thanks!

  3. I find the Marshall 250DFX to actualy sound quite good however i felt when i gigged it once or twice before, it lacked the presence of other 2x12s ive used... Not sure if thats just me since i was used to me Line 6 Spider II at the time or actual lack of presence from the amp.

What i mean is it didnt feel like it was projecting its sound really well out to the crowd, however i really did like the sound of it and micing it up soon took care of the problem.

Im now currently using a Marshall 1st Generation Valvestate through a 4x12 Cab and i really like the sound of it, and they occasinally pop up on fleabay for cheap so could be an option?

Back to Line 6, When i used it, i found it to be reliable (unlike a fair few people) and sound to be good, i gigged it many times without any issues so could still be an option for you? (I used a Line 6 Spider II 212)

    Hope this helps buddy

  4. Hey guys!

I doubt anyone will but its worth a shot!, Im looking at getting some stomp boxes for my rig, but would rather purchase all of them in one go (with powersupply etc) so i can just plug in and go

Having them on an actual board is not necessary although prefered, Im not looking for anything extensive but a nice set would include

    Wah

    EQ

    Delay

    Reverb

    Tuner

    Phaser

Now of course thats not the definitive list so if you've got something close that your looking to get rid of let me know :D

    Cheers guys!

  5. I need something to record tracks with, on my pc, I borrowed a 4 track tape recorder from a friend but its not cutting it. I figured I'd ask you guys. Something free, or on the cheaper side of the spectrum would be nice.

For free, i feel Audacity is an amazing program :D

Also take a read through THIS for some more ideas

  8. 1) The pots are most likely wore in the spots you describe at position 4. Cleaning them with an electronics cleaner may help but you will need to disassemble it.

    2) Yes removing those screws on top should allow you to slide out the amp chassis for inspection or repair. Be careful when sliding out the chassis, sometimes the tolex or outisde covering may be stuck to the metal work and can tear.

    3) Modifying the distortion section and/or updating the opamps with higher quality pieces are the common mods we make on any amps.

    Cheers :D

I Opened up the amp and things seemed to be in good shape HOWEVER...

There was a strange brown luquid inside near the circuit board, it was sticky(ish) but no idea what it is?

The caps all seemed ok so i dont think it was a leaking cap?

Also with the master pot, they are very small on the inside so im not so sure how easy this is going to be :D

  9. Hey once again :D

As some of you may know, i recently became the proud owner of a Marshall Valvestate 100V (8100) from 1992.

However with the age comes a couple of problems and id apperciate it if someone could give me some pointers B)

    1) The master pot and sometimes the treble pot on the "Boost channel" doesnt work.

    - For example when turning the master pot to say "4"... it either produces none/very little noise OR the actual volume meant to be produced at that level, Theory says dodgy pot but wouldnt know where to start?

    2) How do i get inside this head? The guy i got it from wasnt aware it had a tube preamp ( :D ) and so never replaced the tube, I want to get inside and replace it but dont have a clue how to get in!

Im presuming the 6 screws on the top of the headunit secure the preamp/poweramp in, anyone care to shed some light onto that one?

    3) Are there any common mods for these amps? as many people know, i like to tinker so any ideas are always welcome!

    Cheers guys!
