  1. my main guitar right now is an older epiphone special 2 i gutted and rewired and replaced the pickups with just a X2N in the bridge anyways I'd like to make the controls on this guitar as simple as possible by setting it up so i only have an on/off switch on the guitar. are there any links or diagrams on how to do this? i fooled around with the soldering gun when i put in the new pickup but couldn't figure out how to make a kill switch. thanks in advance!

Right first things first, soldering gun? I hope you're not using a plummers solder gun, they're really not a good idea for guitar electronics, they use a soldier with acid in it which ends up corroding electronic components.

As for wiring up a kill switch its pretty easy. If you've got an on/on switch connect the pickup output to one outer lug, ground to the other outer lug and connect the middle lug to the output jack. This way one way will connect the amp to the pickup and the other throw will connect the amp to ground (rather than connecting it to nothing which is the same as putting a lead in your amp with no guitar on it i.e. it'll buzz like mad!).

    Hope this is helpful.

i wouldn't sugest to break the connection. a safer way to do it is gettin one of those on-off switches, wire the output of the guitar to one lug, and ground to the other lug. that way you wont have 'pops'.

thanks guys! no i am not using a plumber grade soldering iron, i've got a decent quality electronics grade one. both these responses sound great! i'm going to try Robert's idea first since i already have my old 3 way switch laying around. but if it makes bad popping noises then i'll switch to an on/off switch. thanks again!

  3. my current guitar is an older epiphone special 2 les paul knock off. i completely rewired and sheilded it a while ago, and replaced the pots and the switch. the only stock wire left is the bridge ground, which is the only connection thats faulty. the bridge ground goes into a tiny hole from the control cavity, through the guitar body, to one of the tune-o-matic pieces. how on earth am i supposed to replace this wire? and is there any way to replacce it without pulling the bridge?

  4. thanks for the help guys when i get some time i'll buy a tone pot and sheild the inside and get rid of that stupid buzz. i also noticed that when i played at my friends house the excess noise went down a lot. also the noise goes down some when i turn off and unplug my computer stereo and ipod. thanx again for the help. i'll update this thjread when i fix the problem.

  5. I've got a epiphone les paul special 2 its had a bad buzz ever since i bought it a year or so ago. it has 1 volume, 1 Tone, and a 3-way switch.

first i replaced the switch which only half worked but the buzz is still there. my solder joints are right so unless some of the wires have inside breakage then the wiring is fine. so i figure it might be the crackely tone knob thats causing the buzz. would replacing or cleaning the bad pot fix the buzz?

  6. How are the danelectro FAB? Are they any good. THey are cheap, but do they match up to a boss DS-1, TS-808 or FUlldrive 2?

I love my danelectros, as you probably can see from the pics. I first bought the fab OD, and it quickly replaced my modded TS9. I guess it all depends on what sound you want, but I love these things. For 15$ they are well worth trying. They deffinitively helped me in my search for the perfect tone.

    :D

yep i love my danelectro metal pedal and for 15$ its the best deal ever.

and nice guitar too, that neck scallop looks nice.

Same thing happened to me with the polish though :D

  7. Well attached is a picture of an old project that I recently started to work on again.  Actually, the body had been sitting in the house for about 1 1/2 years after I lost the battle with the router (see shape of the lower horn).  However, the other day I decided to see what I could do.  I reshaped the horn (it turned out okay).  I also changed from a traditional tele plate to a hipshot ( lots of new and old holes).  The hipshot covers all holes except a portion of one.  I will fill that in later this week.  I decided to make the change because I wanted to add 2 x P90s.  I am on a huge P90 kick right now.  In fact, I do not own a guitar with Humbuckers anymore, but the P90s can cover a ton of ground.

    Dude I think ur pic didn't work I don't see anything :D:D

  8. does someone have experience with 27 fret boards or knows where to get some infos about it. (as seen on the Caparison Horus)

Also did anyone ever work with Acrylglas (Plexiglas) on his guitar (like it was done on the 2 Burny MGX models for X-Japans hide)? i think that looks darn cool

okok sorry that i asked 2 things in one thread...

Have you seen the old PRS wizard prototype? It has 27 frets. I can't find one on google though

  9. well I took apart a lot of my wiring and fixed a few soon to be problems (loose wires) and still buzz. Then I remembered that I have a bad toggle switch so i'll replace that when I have the Money and hopefully that will fix the buzz
