wow im doing a bass build and its almost identical (except im using a cheap ebay pup) not my first build though (its my 4th).

Well, here she is, finally, my second guitar finished.... FINALLY FINSHED! she turned out really nice, after a couple weeks of some incredibly frustrating times. ill give you the specs, than the story, than the pictures.

Water based polyurethane was brushed on, then polished and what not

so heres the story. did all the work, went to put it together and ran into like 9 million problems. had tons of wiring problems which translated into a couple rewires in different ways, finally to this way that I've grown rather fond of. the neck problem was the bridge pickup fitting, stupid cover. so that had to be chiseled out a little bit. the neck was doing weird things when i first strung it up but that was fixed with a couple days of getting the truss rod just right. the action was WAY to high at the bridge end and WAY to low at the nut end. so after a bit of filing out the saddles on the bridge i finally got it to where i wanted it. and i had to use a flattened tooth pick under the nut to get it to a decent height.

sand with a rough grit for best results (like 60) did you do that? make sure you get the pot good and hot when attaching solder or it wont bond properly.

correct. david gilmour uses one (amoung others im sure) and yes theres one thats like that and another that simply boosts mids (also by emg)

ive been told that celestions (or maybe it was someone else) are no longer made in america but are now made in china and are of MUCH less quality than the older ones.

so which one turns mistakes into features?

that wood is quite nice. one day it would be awesome to have a house full of that stuff. all the trimming flamed maple. doors of solid bubinga, exotic koa floorboards. this is the **** i dream of all day at school^.^

if you can find ebony stain use that....pretty obvious i guess. you made need a pre-stain primer type thing because rosewood is pretty oily ( if i recall correctly) and with additional finger grease it may be pretty tough for the stain to take evenly. dark walnut works good too but is a little less black then ebony.

im gonna start a PF guitar some time in summer, never thought of painting it like the wall, thanks for the idea!

great finish, it looks really good. ive gotten away from using the 3M green, i hate the stuff with a passion. i now use some better stuff, its called, Easy Mask KleenMask, i haven't used it long, but it looks good so far.

what about the ones that say on the pack "contains no wax or silicone" should i just be safe and not trust it at all (like im thinking) or are these ones different?

so yeah, whats your experience and thoughts on using tack cloth when finishing. it says it leaves no residue but i can certainly feel it on my hands, although not on the wood. it even recommends using it after sanding between coats, should i give it a try?

how come you (hyunsu) didn't do any inlays on your other guitars. the ones you made on that neck look beautiful.

ahh yeah your definitlly going to need a bandsaw. looks good though, making a neck is like making love, its kinda tough to make the very first move, its easier than it seems, is over way to quick, but is really awesome in the long run.

what i know about electronics/magnets leads me to believe that very little will change. i like the idea about a stacked humbucker and a dummy coil beside it. now combine that with the other guys output measuring LED idea, and you could have one sweet effect.

IMO they look awful, but these guys are right, the sound would be so negligable pick to do it on taste, functionality and look, not sound.

looking good, makes me want to do a semi-hollow style for my next build. that headstock looks really nice too, as does the whole thing.

I second the tru-oil. i did it on my first guitar and it turned out awesome the first time. i forgot to wax it though, somehow, so the finish has a bit of streak marks in it still, but you can't notice unless you look at it underlights at a big angle.

in that case, cutting out the body would SUCK

i would like to say, on top of only being out of a 2X4 that it should also be only parts from the hardware store except maybe tuners and the pickup(s) that would force people to be unique when creating the hardware and i think we would see some real inovation. i might go into this build with my router in hand, and something like a 25$ build total. unless i can get a "sponser" lol

how was the neck making in general as far as planning for stiffness and what not?

yeah great, i too am currently on my first neck through project. would you recomend cutting out the wings to shape before glueing them to the neck piece, so you only have routing, drilling, sanding, and finishing to do once its glued, so like, no major wood work?
