You could always buy a blank fretboard and inlay it and then switch them so that for the time being you can still paly that guitar and then in the future you can use that fretboard again if its in decent shape.

Seriously, I personally think that putting .10 or .11 strings will do MUCH more for your tone than higher action.....

I've never noticed much difference in tone when changing string gauges except on the low e and a strings. Either I have bad ears,prefer lighter strings or I'm not eric johnson but I have my Charvel strung with 8s right now and I find no problem with my tone .

Save the neck,the tuenrs,the brige and the pickups and build a new body. At least you'll have the parts and alot of experience even if you're out a body.

Don't get a tremsetter, wait till the tremol no comes out,its much more useful .

Not as much as a floyd but it would definately be an upgrade from a standard strat trem plus I'm not sure if those bridges have fine tuning screws so retuning might involve more work? I don't really know

You'll also need to drill new holes for the mounting posts and anchors and you'll need either a locking nut or locking tuners or a locking clamp behind the nut.

I only have a Charvette by Charvel but I love it, for the $125CDN I paid for it, its certainly a sweet guitar. It soudns and plays better than some of my friends more expensive guitars and I like to brag about how much cheaper mine was .
