In Yallingup. Which is basically Dunsborough. Some nice looking guitars! I saw Saxons white multiscale when i came and got some clear lacquer off you a couple months back.
Whats happening on the day Perry? a few performances it said.

You are right Wes. Does a fretboard on a les paul finish hard against the top? The reason im asking this is there is still a couple of mm's of neck material above the guitars body so he still has room to sink it down. Thats the only reason i thought of it that way. Correcting the neck angle will bring the strings closer and he may not have to sink the bridge. Whatever you do Blink make sure you are comfortable with it and have thought the process through.
yeah, a lp fretboard does sit on the top... but that section of the top is angled too. This guitar has a flat top and the neck is already set lower than is normal for a bolt-on neck on a flat-top guitar... and thats without allowing for the fact a TOM is a good 4-5 mm taller than a hardtail you might normally see on guitars built this way
see how high this strat neck sits off the body, the scratchplate make it look less
so i still reckon th easiest fix will be to raise and angle the neck with a full pocket shim as well as sinking the bridge slightly.... but thats because i tend to think about how each change will affect the others. changing 3 things slightly means you wont have to create an extreme neck angle
Yeah i see what ya mean wes. Good pic and explanation. I know which way id go but i don't want to influence Blink. He has got to make the decision.

Hey guys,
Excellent work on all the builds this month. I wish i had of worked out how to get on these forums ages ago, its great to see so many people from all over the world share their masterpieces.
Orgmorg: I really liked this build its just a work of art really. The way you worked the different parts and the whole theme behind the scales was great. The tailpiece and the p/up covers are great. How does she play and sound?
Metalmatt: Looks like a really nice build. Finish is neat and i like the single bridge p/up idea. Im into simple. Not a huge fan of the style of guitar but horses for courses.
Hooglebug: I like this guitar the more i look at it! Its quirky and cool. Love the finish and the chrome hardware. Probably a few too many p/up options for me, im simple. haha
Mikro: Cool resonator! Love the birdseye maple, Love the soundholes and i love the way the end of the fretboard floats over the body. Unreal!
Daniel: Wicked guitar mate. I could see myself playing this guitar. I think the body shape is great, vintage but metalish. The stripe in the back of the neck is a great idea. The only thing i would change is why no logo?
C.R.S: Looks like a good job. Couple more photos would of been good.
Avengers: I like the timber you used but its the same case as you with mine. The body is not my cup of tea. I think it is the horn. It looks abit odd to me but we obviously have different taste! Looks like a really neat built though good job.
Swedish: I really like the nortstar. Theres not much to say cause i dig this guitar and theres nothing i dont like about it. To answer your question, the inlay on the front of the Caro was to cover a Flaw. I joined the top with biscuits and hit one whilst i was shaping the top. It is My first guitar and ive learnt alot. Haha When i hit it though i almost s*** a brick! Its a "feature".
Perry: Top job as always mate. Love the timber!I don't think i could play it though but i sure enjoy watching saxon have a Pluck! Have you trademarked the multiscale? I also read that you don't have an apprentice, Id hit you up for a job but i live in yallingup. Oh well one can dream!

Hey blink. As many people have said it looks great! The shim sounds like a good idea but is there anyway you could just route a ramp into your neck pocket instead of routing your bridge into your nicely finished top as your neck pocket is already routed? I reckon if you dropped the front edge of the pocket 1.5 - 2mm and left the pickup side the same height your neck angle would be pretty close and if you needed slightly more angle then you could use a thin shim. Remember altering your neck pocket by just a small amount will make your headstock drop down bringing your strings parallel to the fretboard. What are other peoples thoughts?
It would be a massive shame if you were to route your bridge lower and slip and take a chunk out at this stage of the game. I routed a ramp into my neck pocket no problems the first time. Unfortunately the angle was wrong though and had to re route it once the top was curved... that proved to be alot more difficult . In the end it was all sweet though!
Goodluck!

haha that looks sick. So much for the old keep it simple theory, I wouldn't know where to start with all those switches!
But definately a cool guitar. How thick is the copper?
-
Nice work as always Perry! 8 strings id be ******!
-
Well done Daniel. Couldn't go past that black limba! Its also great to see so many people building their dream guitars. Keep them rolling crew!
-
Hey Daniel great guitar mate. I really like the shape of the body and the wenge is amazing. Fast becoming my favourite timber to look at. Just one question... Why no headstock logo? It would finish your guitars off so well!
-
Nice work mate! Gotta love the fluid lines of a jag or jazzmaster hey! Top job!
P.S I think the white pickplate looks great. It will be interesting when you put the tortoise shell plate on. Make sure you post up a photo for us.

AS bluesy said, adjusting the height of the nut will only help with the first fret. Get a straight edge and lay it along your frets to check your neck relief and go from there. It may need a fret dressing or a total refret but if your not sure maybe get a tech to look at it. Otherwise i know a good website with a tutorial about setups i think it is projectguitar.com .... or something like that.

Great work, excellent for a first build. How does it sound?
Well after playing it for 3 weeks now i can finally say it sounds great and plays really well (of course im going to say that ). Both the other guitarists in our band have played it and are really impressed. If i can work out a way to record a sound file of it ill put some up. Apart from a few cosmetic mistakes im quite proud of it and im already in the thought process of my next guitar.
Im thinking the same shape design but a semi hollow electric with a wraparound tailpiece combo. Probs humbuckers again but with PRS style 5 way rotary switch for the different tonal options.

Wow is all i can say! Just had a look on your website and went through the process of the reeper guitar and the detail is just amazing! Well done foggy! i love this pirate guitar by the way.

That does look f****** brilliant!!! I WANT ONE!
-
Not sure if that is any help!

I guess there is many ways to carve your top but as the lads have said in previous comments it looks like it needs to go futher in to the body. I used a belt sander for mine and when shaping in the waist curves of the body i tilted the sander so only the front roller was touching the timber. In the cutaway i used half round and round files and a bit of 20mm pvc pipe with sandpaper wrapped around it to give the final smooth.
A couple of progress pics.

If you have a nice figured top i would leave the pickguard out. But a pickguard might assist with covering your switch hole because fillers never look quite right. Goodluck its looking good!
-
Awesome work Dan! That guitar makes me wanna go drink some beers and play some sing alongs with my friends!Top job mate!!!

Hey Guys,
Thought i might aswell enter this in the GOTM for november. I have been calling it mark 1 and Caro is the last 4 letters of my lastname.
some specs
Body: Teak with a curly red gum top.
Neck: Vic ash with australian bouree fingerboard
Scale: 25.125 inch or 641mm right in the middle of a gibson and a fender. 22 frets.
P/Ups: Dimarzio Fred in the neck and Dimarzio super distortion in the bridge position.
3 way switching
It has taken about 4months to build on the weekends and was my first build from scratch.
-
Nice work Matt, you will have to hand out sunnies when you play it on stage!!! It looks really fast though if that makes any sense.
-
Looks great Peter! I really like your inlays... the dragonfly looks amazing and now i wanna start to build another guitar with some detailed inlays! Off to the drawing board i reckon.
-
Nice in-progress shot! The only other comment I would have is that I didn't know the top wood looked that good; Myself, I'd have eased up a bit on the dark stain/burst, because you lose a bit of the cool look on the top.
Yeah i actually agree. This is the burst when i had just finished it. I absolutely loved it at this stage, it looked like someone had chucked it in the fire. But when i was doing my binding i had never done it before and i put a little bit too much pressure on the plastic so when i sprayed the stain it bled into the plastic. I wish now i had of keeped it at this stage and just lived with the binding. But by going dark to the edge it masked the bleed.
