My Epiphone Les Paul is grounded at the stop tailpiece. Can it be grounded there or should it be moved to the bridge?

Thanks for the help guys. Anymore tips, please post 'em!

Cool!!!
Should I worry about noise with no shielding?

I'm attempting to replace the electronics and wiring in an Epiphone Les Paul. I bought the replacement electronics from Stew-Mac. What kind of wiring do you use and where do you you get it?

Glad to be here. Ranman - have you considered just using a single coil in the neck position to give you the room you need to get the neck right ? You could even use a single sized blade bucker.
Just some food for thought.
Got a reccomendation for the single blade bucker?

Nice lookin project so far !
Hey Ranman106 : I know where you got your neck from lol
And I sure do appreciate it too!!!

Thanks for the input. I have reached a decision. I am going to leave the neck as is, fill in the bridge pickup cavity, and reroute the bridge pickup cavity @3/4" - 1" closer to the neck pickup. That should leave ample room for the bridge.
Any thoughts on that?
Concerning the earlier post about my 1st build being an assembly, when you build a house, don't you just assemble pieces? So why do you say "building" a house?
Ranman , don't take it personal. We say "building" a house because we have to cut and assemble many , many parts. A guitar "build" consists of cutting and routing your own body and neck. Assembly/customization leaves us a notch below the title of "builder" .
I'm currently working on my first build , but I'm ignoring most of the rules.
There's the right way , the wrong way , and then there's my way lol

I guess Ranman106 would have liked to have seen this thread a couple weeks ago.
You got that right! But, now we have the same neck used 2 different ways.

Just a little update. Got the drill press out yesterday to drill the bride post holes and wouldn't you know it. My drill press is dead!!! Going to pickup another one tomorrow if its in stock.
No way! How did that happen?
Motor will switch on but not engage.
It's ok though. Bought a better drill press today. It was an early father's day gift!

Hmm....
This is a very easy task, but you NEED a router and straight bit with a bearing.
Got the router and ordered the bit, extra bearing, and humbucker template from StewMac.com today.

On a side note, who the hell is Vinnie Vincent and why does she have a man's name? (Read: I am a product of the 80s in a very literal sense)
Seriously?
Vinnie Vincent replaced Ace Frehley in KISS. VV was the guitarist on "Creatures Of The Night" but the album cover showed Ace. VV went on to record the album "Lick It Up" with KISS but was fired after the tour. VV then formed Vinnie Vincent Invasion and recorded at least one album, "All Systems Go". This album also included Mark Slaughter as lead vocals before he went on to form Slaughter.
Saw VVI open for Alice Cooper on the All Systems Go tour. Pretty good show.

Anybody have a tutorial on routing humbucker pickup cavities?
-
You should drill for the bridge first.
Yeah, I plan to but I was needing input on how close to mount the bridge pickup in relation to the bridge.
Just measured one one mine.
I have it at .406" to the PICKUP RING, on the treble side, and .573" on the bass side to the pickup ring.
Thanks! I hope to be drilling this weekend!

Lightly sanded the front of the body today so my pencil marks would stay. I quadruple measured and measured again! So here is what I have, never mind the squiggle line on the patch its a flaw in the wood. I traced the outline of my roller nashville bridge so I could see where it will be mounted. Now to place the bridge pickup cavity. Based on measurements from mine and my sons guitars, I think the bridge pickup ring should be mounted at 13/16" in front of the bridge at the closest (1st string) . Any thoughts on this?

I found my metric rule today and here is what I measured to the best of my ability.
nut to 12th fret = 31.4cm
nut to 24th fret = 47.2cm
Thanks wood is good for the link. I was at a loss while my measurements said 24.75 but everything else said 25.5. I really 2nd guessed myself since I have never done a project like this before.
