so far so GREAT!!!

well here is some pics tested on scrap. The burst line is a little harsh so I need to burst a little more and then sand blend it in to the burst. but I have a good feeling it will turn out good
Oh and here is a side shot. Notice it only affects the top of the wood and not the sides. Which is AWESOME. Also, when I put the burn color on then restain. I think the stain will add the moisture back.

haha definitely. "Student surpasses teacher". Sadie is awesome we bought her a elmo drum kit and every time I practice guitar, she runs to her drums and plays with me haha. As for the horns I use a hardner/ petrifier on them so they dont chip and it works amazing. I've hit things, dropped, etc. on the red guitar build and no chips whatsoever :-P

its... soo.... beautiful!!!
No really. It looks brand new! If I saw this in person I would never have known/thought it could ever be a crap looking guitar like it was before haha
-
whoa 0.o awesome!

jebus the work is amazing. Great choice of woods and combinations.

I think the cam would work perfect. Then again I just really want to hear what this sounds like regardless of what you use lol.

LOL wow.. I actually fell for the guitar falling... Looks awesome though. I am definitely going to use this technique for the neck pocket template. For some reason its the hardest/ least favorite route that I have to do on my builds... Thanks!

started staining the top. I think the color came out perfect! Now its going to be a challenge to get that brown burst on there without an airbrush haha
There was a lot more figure than I thought!
Anyway, I have NO idea why I didn't do this sooner... I went to the local Harbor Freight and got a 5" sanding disk with a 40 grit paper for my grinder and carved the NM. It was SOOOO FASTTTT. Took about 10-15 minutes instead of 1-2 hours...
So now here is the NM waiting. I still got to use this new AWESOME scraper and finish up carving the NM.
The horns I decided I will finish fully with the scraper. They were just to sharp/tight for the 5" grinder to get (for me anyway so far).
Oh and this is little Sadie. She loves watching me work. She always points to each guitar and says "Sadie's guitar?" haha I cant wait until shes old enough to play one. Or build one for that matter. (Don't worry she stays inside when I actually sand or work.)
Thanks for looking

For sure man, I'm actually really happy with how this is turning out. Even though its my dads guitar, I show it to him from time to time to see what he thinks. He thought the "mess up" was an awesome unique addition to the guitar. He didn't even know it was a mistake. Even said it would be good for the trem. So it worked out perfectly. He doesn't even know its his guitar yet haha. The best way to surprise someone is to keep the gift completely obvious until Christmas day when I say. "Here you go dad, this one was yours. I built it like your very first guitar but this one is everything you wanted." (he always said the Gibson was to heavy and this and that... so I fixed all those things for him Ill post some progress pictures in the next hour or so.

GAH I thought there would be progess pics lol. Sounds awesome! Glad to hear this one is almost done. Are you going to post any sound clips?

I cant wait to see how that burst looks. It sounds intense. I hope someday to be able to do this with a future kid of mine
-
I think it looks perfect for a guitar.
-

-
whoa those leds look awesome with the color of the bass
-
looks raaaaad! i cant wait to see it finished
-
that looks sexy. I want one! haha
-
whoa ok yeah nevermind on the water. haha Sweet man thanks on the good info that maple should have no issues cant wait to try now
-
Started the carve on the LP. The dang chisel knocked a chuck out of the center... i need gouging files . but it still came out pretty awesome. Its like a unique little cove for the trem to have room to pull back on.
Ill start the NM tomorrow as this took a long day to do... Tired...

Dark I was planning on testing on scrap tonight Orgmorg, do you think that If I added sand to the spots I wanted to burst? Maybe even add water to the spots that I want to char? I was thinking maybe if I add enough water it will get hot enough to char before it has time to dry and crack? Just a theory/thought.
Anyway thanks for the pic, it definitely gives me an idea of where I want to go and what sorts of results ill get.
What type of wood was that org? I was going to burst a maple top, maybe the tightness of the maple will give me less worries when it comes to cracking?

Thanks SD I am also done with deft. I'm going to use stew macs spray until i can get a spray setup

I was reading HuntinDoug's thread about sand shading and I thought, Since he is using heat and what not to create a burst. Is it possible or feasible to do this with a heat gun? I wanted to get this brown dark burst maybe with trans tints... but thought it would just be a lot easier to heat gun it and sand back some of the over burned spots? idk, just a thought, or hoping some of you have tried/ done this and would post some pics.
here is what im after

GEEZE that stuff looks awesome!! Post the progress AND of the one you are building yourself :-P You know we all love to see the builds. At least I do

looking good
I still need to even out some spots.
I noticed it affected the glue. so next time I will have to work a little closer and faster and let the wood burn fast so the glue doesnt heat up. I fixed it with clamps but I learned a good lesson
