  1. Epic win... and the dry humor passes completely unnoticed hahahaha.

    Chris

    I got it Chris :D

I agree, this build is epic win, and looks like a complete treasure to play. I would lose myself in the controls themselves, so maybe not for me to play just yet!

On a side note, Dave, my girlfriend bought me the book Hand Made Hand Played, this past Christmas. I flipped the book over to the back cover, saw a picture of the Sungazer, and exclaimed, "I know that guy! I've talked to him online!"

Definitely felt like the biggest geek that Christmas, lemme tell ya.

You have a girlfriend called Dave??

  2. One that I would build. From what I can see a LP -DC has a neck tenon (I think that's the word for it) running under the neck pickup route. What if you don't want a neck pickup? This is why I'm asking.

    Thanks for the help.

If you didn't have a neck pickup then you would see the neck tenon (which is usually covered up by the neck pickup). But if you put a veneer over you wouldn't see anything. Les paul juniors have no pickup at the end of the fingerboard and the tenon is covered up by the pickguard.

  3. I don't think glue type is too much to worry about. Just don't get anything too cheap and focus your mind on getting a good glueing surface with the wood(The surfaces should touch EXACTLY all the way along as this is where the glueing will go wrong if anything). I should mention that everyone has their own idea about glue and this could be changed by: the age of the glue, humidity, if any water has got into the glue etc.

I have had little experience with different glues and I'm just usuing this unbranded wood glue (from aldi supermarket I think) and I have never had any problems.

Anyway, Just my point of view. Sorry if I offended anybody.

  4. Hey everyone.

Its been a while since I posted on this in progress thread but here goes.

I have routed the truss rod channel and glued on the wings. Once the glue had dried I started carving the top. I carved a letter "M" onto the top horn, this still needs some more sanding as it is still lumpy in places and rough in the little groves. Sanding round this letter is very fiddely and takes along time (makes me want to change my name so I have an easier letter sometimes). I also partly cut out the headstock, routed one of the pickup cavitys and carved the bottom horn. One of the things i have learned from this is not to have a neck angle (at least not as much as 3 degrees) on a through neck guitar as there is so much waste. Anyway, I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

The guitar as it is so far.

  5. Not to much action recently, sorry guys. I got the other side of the binding glued and shaped. Things should pick up again once the truss rod channel has been routed. I am going to go to a friends house to route the channel as he has more experiance with a router than my dad and I (we do have a router and quite a nice one but we have only used it once and that was testing it on a bit of softwood with a fairly blunt bit.) I already have the head ears glued on so this might make routing a bit harder. I think I'll do that thing that they do on those spanish youtube vids on the tutorial section with the bits of metal. When I do get the channel routed I can then glue the sides on, route the pickup cavitys, glue the fingerboard on etc. and it should all get going again. Thanks for reading if you got this far, and sorry it's not nearly as interesting as the other projects.

  6. Sorry, I'm afraid that wont work. You will not be able to get humbucker mode on the switch as the 2 settings on the dpdt will be: up=singlecoil down=no signal. You can either just not bother with the kill switch or have a second dpdt switch. If you want any help just message me and if you want i will write you a schematic.
