  1. Ok I got some time to work on the guitar so this is what I have gotten done.

I added material to the neck. and started the final heel shaping.

So thats where I'm at and I think it's coming along good. going to start working on the top some more.

  2. One thing you may wanna look into is how you'll do the joint to extend the heel. I don't know what you're plan was for that, gluing an extra piece directly on with a butt joint won't really give you any additional strength in the neck joint, since it'd really be no different than just gluing it straight into the neck pocket. The thought that was playing around in my head was just do a scarf joint, much like you'd do for the neck/headstock. If your truss rod doesn't go all the way to the end of the neck, then you could cut a diagonal slice off from the bottom of the heel, then glue on another piece that would extend the heel like a normal set neck would be. Maybe get some opinions on how to extend the heel from some of the other guys around here, but as I mentioned just gluing on a piece to the end won't really do anything to improve the situation.

Anyhow, great looking project so far, keep the pic coming of your progress and best of luck, very nice stuff. Jason

Thanks I never thought of doing that way, That is what I think I will do that will be a far better joint..

  3. Yeah I know how the lp's and PRS do the neck joint. I don't want to lose the fret access. so instead fo moving the neck in for more glue surface. I'm going to build up the heel on on the neck. the part the buts up to the body to get the extra glueing surface. so it will in the end look just like a PRS.

  4. I like the neck but the thing is the fretboard having a finish on it that had to be removed. And if your going to go through all this trouble. would it just be easier to make one the way you want. I say if you like the shape and you think it's going to work for you and the price is good then go for it. but if you are second guessing it then don't. for me it will do for my first build.

  5. Welcome David! I see you live in Toronto...I want to move up there to study and eventually stay, hehe. Good luck with your project!

(I´ll move the topic to the correct section)

Thanks for moving the thread to the right section. If you Plan on moving up here I hope you like the cold and snow for 6 months of the year. It is a great place to live.

  6. I'm starting my first project and it's a hard one I suppose. It's going to be a PRS carve top copy with a 25 1/2 (648 mm) scale. I'm using South American Mahogany for the back and a Curly Maple for the Top. I plan on making the router jig I've seen on this forum for removing and starting the carve shaping. I also found another jig on line for cutting the neck and pickup pockets and the angle required. It's going to be a 24 fret Stop-tail. I'm using the Wilkinson GTB adjustable Stop-tail on the G and B strings.

I did order a neck though seeing this is my first attempt I didn't feel up to making my own neck. I do plan on doing some custom inlays on the headstock.

I'll try to post picks for everyone to see as i go along.

feel free to give me any suggestions .

    David
