started finishing this thing on the weekend.
it's got 4 coats of oil on it so far.

That top wood is awesome. It looks like there's a million faces in it.
+1
Is it a drop top or thick enough to carve?
SR
It's just over an inch thick. Getting a nice carve on it.
Well.
I'm insanely jealous. Do make sure you keep us up to date with this one. You've been rather busy lately.
SR
I will when I get started. I just started a new job so I'm busy trying to please the new bosses. So I don't have cnc axis anymore. But I do have a full machine shop now.
A nice mill and lathe, sand blaster too and much more. It's been hard to get time to get on here.
-
I wouldn't go for more than 3/4" of carve personally. That's already a HUGE carve. I'm talking the carve though, not the thickness of the blank. But still, with 3/4" of carve, if the blank is OVER 1" then you've got over 1/4" top thickness at the edge.
Think of it this way, most archtops use a 1" blank, but they're 16" (ave.) wide. My $.02
Chris
I have no intention of making the top a 1" carve.
I going to rip off of the bottom of each half and use that for a tele and some headstock veneers.

Sweet burl. Where do you source your limba? I can't seem to find any good pieces for decent prices on the internet, and my local place doesn't carry it.
I get my limba from my local supplier. They have a good selection almost all the time. But this is a 3 piece body blank I glued up from my leftovers from the Tortoise build.
-
This ones for me.
Specs update:
Top: Burl Maple Carved
Body: Black limba
Back: Burl Veneer
Neck: Cocobolo
FB: Ebony
Backplate: Ebony
Frontplate: Ebony or nothing
Binding front-back-neck-headstock b/w/b + Cocobolo
Custom Wolf / Moon inlay at 12 fret and DS logo in headstock.
Guitar Logistics pickups PAFs I think
Tone Pros AVT2 Bridge and Classic tuners for this one, not sure yet.
And here's a mockup of both a SC and a DC. I'm unsure still to what one I will make. But I think I'll use the Santana headstock thats in the mockup.

H O D all the way.
Peace.

Pickups mounted and wired. They sound great.

I have, to bad your wrong and wont admit it.

I stopped listening to them after the record after Natural Science came out. I did like them... but their prog rock became too scattered for my taste.
I also read the drummer's book. Did you know he hates his fans?
I have no reason to support a band that doesn't support the people who put food on their table.
You read Neil Peart's book and believe he hate his fans. Wow talk about mis understanding. Read it again.
He love's his fans but hates fanatics that will do everything in their power to interrupt his life. he is a very private man, Rush is Rush and my personal life is just that personal.
If he hated his fan so much he never would have returned to rush and the stage after the lose of his daughter and then his wife.
-
Rush?
Bah.
Like I said under rated, mostly due to stupidity, meaning rushing to judge based on the vocals and image.
Small minded people in this world.
-
Sorry about that bro had to test the fit, thought I had cleaned out all the dust but was wrong.
Wiring it up in the morning.
-
I love your necks. They alone inspire me to build.
-
Alex Liefson (Rush) is extremely under-rated on a number of different levels.
As for just fun to listen to:
Albert Lee
Chet Atkins
Leo Kotke
Alex is highly under rated hence the reason why no one but me and you have mentioned him. under rated just like RUSH.
but so is Albert Lee. fantastic chickin pickin..
-
He sold his last 2 months ago and was not doing them anymore from what I remember, thats what he told me at least.

Got my pickups from RestorationAD and the look great, also got the cavities routed out. Just a little more work on them and wiring the girl up for a test run before finishing.
Beautiful Ebony Bobins Brett
-
The wire you have has a rounded edge (like most) so it looks like it is not seated properly (annoying)... looking at your photos the fret job looks good.
So a tip here... since the bottom of the fret has a little nib were the tang meets the top I use a triangle file and kiss the top of the slots one time before install.
This is the best way to do it. it prevents chipping if you ever do a refret.
-
This is going to be even nicer!!!!!! Love the top and the neck.
-
This is going to be nice!!!!!

GOTM # 2 Brett Fantastic work.

Nothing on the planet is UV resistant. It may be resistant to a point, but if left out in the sun it's like everything else.
-
that would a good idea for an acoustic sound. But this thing is all Metal.
I'm getting RestorationAD's Diablo's made for it, this thing is going to be sweet when it's done. tapping and splitting the coils

Thanks Paul
it's a medium gloss finish but I will be giving it a run over with my soft buff and extra fine compound to shine it up a bit.
