I do, I'll take some pictures tonight.
It really is a rough prototype and the MDF doesn't do it an favours

I started a LP type project before moving house. Unfortuately, the body got damaged in the move and it's been sitting around rathering dust. Recently, a neighbour who plays in a local group gave me his old plywood-bodied les paul and said do something with that.
I started to make a LP-Explorer hybrid out of MDF (as a prototype) but he didn't like it (some people have no taste ).
As this project was a favour and he didn't have any money for materials / parts, i decided to "convert" the damaged LP project into a double cut mosrite inspired monster.
It going to be white, with a bridge humbucker and tele lipstick at the neck.
I'll post some pictures in the near future...if anyone is interested

I vote for the LP. I've tried the several PRS and i was scared in case I scratched it. I'm not so keen on the newer production models, they feel as nice as my 1997 LP

Hello all,
I was thinking today about how I could finish my guitar, and I had an idea to wrap aluminium around a guitar. I would like to do this, but I have a few questions:
-Has this been done? If so, then how?
-Should I glue or should I rivet it down?
-Will doing this cause a loss of money?
-Will it change the intonation?
Lastley-How can I cut out the exact holes for pickups and knobs?
Thanks!
i would recommend having a look at this site

I hope this helps

It's close enough that you will never know the difference, if you are building from scratch. Matt's bass isn't a '51 but that is where the concept came from. Build it, they will come.
thank-you for your help

I really, really want to make a '51 P-Bass (sometimes known as a Tele bass) just like the one that sting uses.
Can anyone tell me if the basic body outline is the same as the modern contour shape that is available in the download section. I really don't want to buy the plans only to find that they aren't what I'm looking for
Any assistance would be greatfully received

Theres also Luthier Suppliers (David Dykes..Sussex) and North Higham Sawmills in Norwich.
You can get most things over here BUT you do have to look pretty damned hard compared to the US.
Jem.
I know David Dykes will plane it for you but you will have to pay for it!

It never hurts to have a little leftover....ya know, just in case. Go for the 3x3x30 then you'll know there's enough.

if you go for 2" wide then it will be cheaper and you can use some of the excess to make the headstock wings just like gibson do

Thank-you all for your help. I'll try out the sandpaper technique tonight!
