The fret board is just held on with index pins in this picture.
-
Well it was a couple more days of delayed work than expected, but the neck is set and i am almost completely done with the woodworking aspect, then it is just off to the finish.
-
Ok, so I an going to leave the shape as is, I am going out of town for about ten days so I will get back to work and post updates then
-
It can't get any smaller, it barely accommodates the tuning machines as is. Thanks for your input
-
I need your guys oppinions on this one. Do you thint the headstock is proportional to the body?
-
sorry for the lack of updates i have been out of the country for the past few weeks but there are a coupple of updates.

-
So i just thought i would put an update out ther, i took another break for a while but am back at work and decided to go with a new neck for the new body so this is now a from the beggining thread
I will be glueing the scarf tomorrow

-

And the neck tennon

I am a little late to getting this thread started because I started this project about 8 months ago and just took a 4 month long break (the first 4 months very very leisurely work.) Anyways. So i had the idea a while back to build a mandolin shaped like a Les Paul, and decided i would name it the "Less Paul".
this is the neck a few months ago(the story with the body in the background is that i wanted to do binding so i routed the channel, and then i didn't want binding anymore... so)
This is the blank for the new body that has been already cut out and is going to the planer tomorrow. I will post pics then
-
wouldnt i just be able to cut the side circles of it with a 1/2 inch forstner bit, and then set up a jig for the router base to run along? I don't know how to get the 1/8 inch quarters though.

I am in the process of building a les paul shaped mandolin and am using an old p bass pickup as the pickup for it. I have looked all around on the internet and i cannot find how to route a cavity for this pickup without one of the stew mac templates. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
P.S. this is my second build (first was a strat copy)

is 3/8 to thin with a 2 and a half inch tenon?
-
Makes sense now. I've previously done this.
Cheers
-
what do you mean by "tuning"?
-
i only figured i would get two pieces.
Cheers

If i was to say have a piece of purple heart wood that was an inch thick and 7 and a half wide and as long as i need it to be would it be possible to turn that in to a matched pair of two top pieces about 1/4 of an inch thick each?
-
Cheers
P.S. This was question about the mandolin neck pocket depth
-
it'll be entered within the next few months.
Cheers
-
would a mandolin be applicable for guitar of the month?
-
how thin can the back of a set neck neck pocket be?
-
I painted my guitar three weeks ago with some krylon spray paint and I was wondering if its time to buff it yet? I can still leave very light marks with my fingernails in the pickup cavities if I use like 10th to 15lbs of force
-
is floyd rose still in business making bridges?
-
ya i should have thought of that
Thank You!
