I did use the search feature and found out that cherry is a great wood to work with and is very stable. But it is bright.
How bright?
If i use a maple neck, 1/4" maple cap and single coils would it be over bearing?
If i used a maple neck, 1/4" maple cap and humbuckers would it be overbearing?
How do you think it would sound in route out chambers in the body, then put on a maple cap?
The reason im asking this is because i found a peice of two inch stock cherry 24 inches wide. It heartwood only consumes the last 3 inches and the sapwood 2 inches. I think it would look sweet as a back with a maple top. natural finish.

thats really low,
i run 5/64 of an inch. But im all about tone and not speed.
Whatever floats your boat.

Mine was a whapping 5 hours.
I rush it, but it turned out smooth and rich.
I got lucky on that one.
But what about you?

my les paul is set up with 11-52 and the action is 2/32 at high e and 3/32 at the low e.
I personally liek it that high. Nice chunky, tight feel.
Cant shred on it that well, but would can get some serious tone.

i Played a tremonti a week or two ago.
The sweetest playing guitar ive played. But the bridge pickup was a little bright.

If it was quilt i would definitly go with the blue because it would look like water. It looks so cool.
But the flame... im thinking red also.

Is there any way you can remove the binding intact, stain the area(s) you want, and then reinstall the binding? And then apply clear to everything. Otherwise, a good masking job is all I can think of.
everyway i know to take the binding off wood ruin the wood.
There will be no "overhang" on the top like a normal binding, it will be stain out to the edges. I still dont know how to get the stain to stay in the top and not bleed into the maple.

This will go on a telecaster with a mahogany back and maple top with natural binding and back.

Red

The red is a little tiny itsy bit darker than what i was gonna use.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome as this is my first project.

Ok, so i am in the process of planning to build a telecaster.
The guitar goes as follows,
1 1/2 inch African Mahogany body
1/4 flame maple top
Standard tele shape
i want to do just a clear untinted finish on the back and sides. Making the binding natural (think PRS). I thought this would be easy, but when i stain the top i figured that the stain would penetrate into the binding from the top. Making a fuzzy edge in my binding.
What could i do to stop this?
One of my friends said to clear the top, then mix the stain into a clear. Then spray that, then after a couple coats of that, clear over.
The problem with this, i thought would be getting the top to stain evenly.
Would that be a problem?
Has anyone here down this? ANd if you did, what method of finish did you use?

My shop teacher got his hands on some what i consider nice flame maple.
He also has some nice mahogany.
How can i tell if it is good enough for a guitar body.
It is all flat sawn, but i have seen some high end gibsons with flat sawn bodies too.
What are some trait to look for other than i has a nice grain.

Teles with standard Fender bridges or more accurately and guitar (for the most part) with a standard fender bridge does not need a neck angle. Guitarman was right on about the search feature.
i will take that into consideration, thank you
-
Is the neck angle on a telecaster straight or tilt like a lp at a slight angle.
Also what do you guys, as luthiers use to cut out neck slots and pick up cavities.
I have a CNC router with a cad program at my disposal if that helps.

What scheme do you think i should use.
Maple on Mahogany body with mahogany neck ebony fretboard
or
Maple on Mahogany body with flamed maple neck with flamed maple fretboard?
