  1. Guys help me out if this is not 100% correct.

The water mixed with the dust creates a slurry that acts like a lubricant that tends to lessen the scratching of the sandpaper making a more even finish.

Once you get down to 600+ paper, any wrinkle in the papaer or spec of grit or dirt that you may pick up can cause a deeper scratch that could stand out against the rest of the (now smooth) surface. Wetsanding will prevent this somewhat.

Just in Case... make sure you choose paper that can be used wet, it will say on the package.

  2. And yet another option is a set of files to clean the tips of acetylene welding torches. They also come in various sizes that will get you very close to exact... and they are round

  3. Yes it will help but you might want to read through some of the painting 'how to's' on the site before proceeding much further. This will help you understand what processes give what results and will also help you plan out your project too.

    Enjoy & Welcome.

  4. My mistakes become inspirational posters, so to speak. But instead of the corporately cheesy sayings like "Goals" or "Perseverance" they say something derogatory & vulgar hoping that will make an impression in us, not to do it again.

BUT, if starting over is not an option and you understand that it may never be perfect, both options may work. Putty may not hold very well and after time the entire Plug may loosen and crack the finish. Can you drill out the gouge and make a solid plug out of the same mahogany trying to match the grain as best as you can?

Going heavy with the semi-transparent may make the mistake even more obvious so try it on a scrap piece first.

Good Luck, I'm sure some of the other mayevenhave better advice.

    TD

  5. Thanks for the kind words guys, glad to help out when I can, and glad to clear up some room too! I still have some left but don't order the Mahogany directly from our site unless you just like spending more. My email is on the original post, send me a note and I'll send a paypal invoice. Then I expect to see some of these on GOTM!
