How about a video showing us how she sounds?

I need them to be long enough for a 34" to 35" multiscale six string bass neck. I've been having the worst time finding wood for this considering the only suppliers in my area carry pine or cedar, and online I can't find anything big/wide enough at the right price. It's my first commission, but it is for a friend, so he's not worried as far as time goes, and, I told him he could just pay me for wood/parts as they come along in the build, so he's happy about that as far as his wallet goes.

I've always strongly disliked the whole Bc Rich designs, but I absolutely love this build. My favorite thing about it has to be the paint job. Reminds me of something that'd been in the background of a twilight zone episode. Awesome build, great job!

What'd really be neat is if you made a ZR cover to go along with the stripes of the neck

This reminds me, I need to build one of those too! I'm a big Back To The Future buff, and i've always wanted one of those for nostalgic reasons!

Im not too worried about thickness, so long as its under 1/2 inch, and bubinga would be great, actually. I'm just looking for darker woods.

Im looking for some Rosewood(or any dark wood) pre cut for lamination. Im not too concerned as to thickness, but I would really appreciate it if someone here could hook me up because i could easily buy long slabs of wood for laminates, but i currently have no way of slicing them up to be used as such.

Any help would be much appreciated, Thank You!

This is absolutely wonderful, I've never seen a second build done so methodically and precisely. That's an amazingly good idea about the walnut, I wish I'd thought of that! One question though, where do you buy your laminate woods?

What kinds of auto tools are you interested in?

Id say go with the ebony, it would look gorgeous with that top and would fit the design much better than a just a standard bridge. Love the way all of this is looking btw!

That's very creative! The only things I have to criticize on is the paint, and in some of the pictures that truss rod route looks of center, but other than that I like it!

I love what you did with that African mahogany, it really makes the guitar "pop" IMO. I just recently scored a 72"x8.5"x1.25" piece of the same from the bay for just under 20 bucks, hope mine finishes as well as yours!

That sir, is badass! I scored some nice maple some time ago, been waiting a while to put it to good use, first i need to get some new router bits, make some new jigs, templates, etc. etc.

29/32 is exactly 0.90625 inches and is just like 6 millimeters is equal to .6 centimeters. Not that hard to understand, and if you need any more help, google a conversion calculator for inches to cm, mm, etc. Although I do agree that using millimeters is more accurate and simpler

Also, I am tempted to make the body out of walnut. It would be a nice look with the neck I think, and seems to be a decent tonewood. Anyone have any opinions on walnut as a body wood??

Walnut is perfectly acceptable (maybe even a step up from Alder or Ash) tone wood.

I am fond of the expensive ones... Claro, Franquette, Bastogne, Peruvian. But Black or anything from the West coast of the US is fine. Watch out for the cut... a lot of plain walnut is riftsawn and it is tough to find nice quartersawn or flatsawn pieces.

Awesome, I saw i nice looking walnut board the other day. I thought it was labled black walnut. The price was good, maybe I'll give it a shot. It'll give me something to play around with until the tops and fret boards show up for my other builds.

Lookin nice, that sucks with the pine, Ive been using that wood to learn on and try things before I attempt it on nicer wood, and besides, it's cheap and readily available here lol but it's definitely not the nicest or best wood to work with, but at least it's not balsa!

Almost forgot one last thing... recess straplocks. They are really hard to drill after the neck is attached.

I also forgot to add, most of the work i did by hand, including cutting the nut slot for the locking nut, which i did with just a hammer and chisel and some sandpaper stapled to a flat block of wood. For just that, it came out nearly perfect, a little too deep, but i made a shim out of some aluminum siding cut to shape, folded, and holes drilled for screws, and it works perfectly. Since im using a licenced floyd on this one(got it for a steal on axcessories.com) it doesnt really flutter, but having set it up properly, down to the right spring tension for the specific gauge of the strings, it stays in tune relatively well. And because the route for the bridge was a little deep, i have the ability to pull up so high that the strings hit the frets, and even the bridge pickup a little bit

What I would do is shield around the pickups and controls, being sure each section of shielding makes contact with the others, I.e. The shielding around the pickups somehow connects to the shielding around the controls, if that makes any sense

This one started off as a super cheap starcaster strat i got for christmas way back when. since then ive done so many things to this this guitar i cant even count. as of now i have a final design set in mind and its almost done, i have a few pictures of how it sits now so ill post those and see what you guys think.

this is basically what i started out with, crappy pickups and all.

this is what it looked like after i stipped the paint again (was originally painted evh black and white styled) and after i filled the pickup cavity, and cut out the control cavity so that i wouldnt need a pickguard. i also cut out and covered the original input jack hole, and drilled a new one on the side. (Sorry for bad photos, i took these pictures on my ipod)

And this is how it looks as of last night, put it together just for a test fit to see how everything looks and feels at this point. With the poor camera quality you cant really see all the extra curves and cutaways i did, but theyre there, and it makes the body a little lighter than what it was.

So far the top four frets are scalloped, i cut away some wood on the left wing to make it look more "super strat" like, and freehanded the cavity for the floyd rose with my new router(first time ever using a router). the only mistake was the when i was routing the cavity for the floyd, the bit slid from the coilet a little bit, so its a little deeper than needed, but it still looks and works fine imo.

Heres the rest of my plans for it:

Electronics: 1 vol, 1 3 way pickup selector(les paul type) and a diy sustainer(for the amp portion of the sustainer im going to use a 1.5 watt miniamp that sells on guitarfetish.com for about $22
