That would look really cool on a guitar. Sweet.
-
This thread is long...
I don't care. I love your build threads. Make 'em as long as you want.
-
Looking good for first build.
Since you're putting a veneer on the top couldn't you just fill in the hole with a piece of dowel rod? That to me would be a better option than wood filler.
-
had to be hoogle, if not just for the pain of scraping back 200+ inlays

It's not an assumed risk if you continually hire idiots like that to load & unload materials (it's pretty much guaranteed). I would've been barking up the company tree until something happened. If no one says anything about it, those morons won't learn and someone could get hurt next time.

Looks like it fits around the existing truss rod according to the diagram, but I could be wrong.
-
I'd save your money and get a regular truss rod. I have 2 Warmoth guitars I've built and they have it and I don't like it. Everything's based off the main truss rod adjustment, it makes very minute adjustments (you have to really crank it to notice anything), and all string tension has to be off the neck to adjust it so it seems pointless. For the time spent making one adjustment I could've had the neck off, tweaked and back on and tuned to pitch or much quicker with a headstock adjustment truss rod.

Nice build. How's that EM6000 odor wise? Is it as bad as nitro? Working on gatering materials for build #1 at the moment and haven't thought about finishing. I've refinished a couple of guitars with nitro and would like a more user-friendly option and this looks promising.

How long ago did you purchase this kit? I don't see it offered anymore on the website.
-
Sweet. Actually saw George Lynch today at the Dallas Guitar Show.
He played pretty good this time, but he still needs to learn how to tune a guitar,
and quietly. ;D
Did you use the specs off the Floyd Rose site for the templates? I have a Mighty Mite
Strat I've been wanting to install a recessed Floyd on, but didn't feel like spending
the money for the Stew Mac templates either.

I think you should get an award for the 'Best Tutorial Host'.
Your detailed pics and explanations cannot be beat for thoroughness and detail.
Which really is the whole foundation of this forum, the passing along of workable, successful, repeatable detailed information from the experienced to the inexperienced, and you do it with really excellent clarity.
Bravo I sez. B)
+1!

Tele with a Floyd. Love it!

+1. Excellent first build. I like the wood choices. How did that glue line on the lower half end up? Is it still noticeable?
-
Very cool. One question though. I know that Kahler tremolos don't need a huge route like the Floyd Rose, but that top is strong enough to hold the bridge? I would think that over time string tension would start to pull it free from the wood. Just asking.
-
Very clean. I like it.

Found this site through a Google search:

Either choose from their designs or have them make your own. Couldn't find this already posted on the forum.

Absolutely love these builds. I can only hope my first build (if it ever happens) will look remotely close in fit and finish.
Do you do any floating tremolo setups? Just curious.

You got it plinky, she's a '65. Only car I have too! Got tired of driving Hyundais and Mazdas and got me a real old school rockin' machine.
Thank you.
Awesome work there Wademeister. Those basses are stellar.
-
Nice work. Love the resin pickguard & trussrod cover. ;D
-
That top wood is simply gorgeous.
Car's not bad either. '65 Galaxie? When I was a kid, I coulda had a '67 ragtop for about $1600, but my dad wouldn't let me.

If you find a sale at harbor freight, you can get a turbine-driven HVLP system for about $60. I think the system is full price at $90. Two cans of your urethane would get you the rig, plus you would have it for all future builds. The system at HF also gets very good reviews from the automotive world. I got one for Christmas, but haven't had weather that will allow me to try it out yet (guess that's what happens when you live near canada in january).

$84 at HF right now. Might just give this a try. Thanks for the tip. The weather isn't much better right now down here in Dallas. One day 70 deg., the next 10.

I learned my lesson time and time again - I'm never using spray can anything to finish a guitar (unless its something like re-ranch - never tried 'em so I can't comment on them).
Tried ReRanch & wasn't happy with it (overpriced & he charges full shipping when I'm 3 miles from his house). Had good results with the Stew-Mac lacquers. Just wanting to try a urethane finish this time, but I can't afford an HVLP system at the moment, nor do I have a place to set up such a rig.
-
A little on the expensive side, but curious if anyone has tried it on anything? I can't really afford any HVLP equipment, so this sounds promising. Just wish the price was a bit more reasonable.

How do you like that plunge router rig for the Dremel? Thinking about buying one, just looking for some feedback on it.

I'd have to go back to Louisiana during the summer. All the big ones come out then.
