hey i was wondering if i printed my logo for the headstock off from the computer on normal paper, had it laminated and then cut it out as a stencil would it work well if i used a rattle can of spray paint over it and the clear coats???
Thanks,
Charlie

You dont need to put a finish on the fretboard but its highly reccomended to put a finish on the neck itself...the finish actually helps prevent warping.
someone confirm this.
like on the back of the neck and the headstock?
-
i was wondering if there was a need to put any finish on this stewmac neck the fret board inparticular (ebony)..
thanks

hey, a couple of u may have read my posts about this guitar for my year 12 Major Project.
here is a pic of the project
anyway...i am having trouble routing and i desperatly need some help by the end of this week.
preferably i would like to meet up with somebody in sydeny who can help me with the job.
the trouble that i am having is that the guitar that i have built needs a custom routing template which i do not have the expertise to make....i am also inexperienced with routing.
if you could give me any tips or meet up to help me with this problem, it would be greatly appriciated..
thanks, charlie...

What should I use to fill the hole? Unfortunetly the hole isn't a perfictly clean cut because when I was trying to get the tip of the screw out it got a bit messy. Any ideas you guys might have would be great.
Thanks
Bill
hey, i actually only saw this today. during my Design tech incursion at school, where i was making my guitar all day in my schools ausome workshop...
i saw some kids in year 7 making shelves. and they had drilled the holes too far, so they filled them with some kind of putty.
now i don't know what it was, but it was very effective, it looked just like the wood, but without the grain. i also think that it dries just as hard.
if somebody could clarify what this is, that would be great, because i would also like to know for future referance
If you could alsso post a picture up, it would be helpful in knowing what the situation is....

Yeah mate, i got it from there a couple of weeks ago. it cost a hell of a lot in shipping and customs to australia, dammit. added 1/3 to the price.
but yea its an ausome neck, so good to work with, and such good quality.
also the service from stewmac and dhl was amazing, i could track my package the whole way and i had it delivered to my school.
neway, what do u guys think of my efforts so far, any ideas/comments
thanks,
Charlie G

thanks for your replies so far, the guitar is a solid body electric and i was thinking of putting a sort of grove in the body for my leg, and with the folding sides, my original i dea was to have metal bars as such you can see on my msn space. my new idea may be something like this. it is a guitar which mattw04 made this here
also does anybody know where i can purchase a smokey amp or simillar product in sydney australia.
And the head stock was something i was just thinking of, now i am thinking of a smoother design which i will post up soon.
sorry i havent posted pics yet, my computer died and i am having to use the one in the school libary.
k thanks

does anybody know how the blue around the sides was done, what material, how it was attatched, any affect on the tone.
Thanks,

if it was mine, i would have the wings be longer, to the square, it dont look like much wood behind the trem there
Curtis
there may be the option of making the wings longer by metal folding parts, of which i will post sketches of tonight:D
also, how much wood does there need to be behind the trem?

hey, as a result of some suggestions i had in other posts, i will keep all the info on this project in one forum.
I am planning to post some pictures tonight when i get home, because they are on my camera. the basic idea is to have a through neck, with 2 flying v style wings, and strat electronics and bridge incorparated.
heres a basic picture:
I have already glued the wings on with epoxy glue. and will be routing out the cavities this week or the week after.
As i have already said i will post links to the pictures i have already taken of the work so far.
also if anybody has some templates that they could post links to so i can print them off and create my own templates out of MDF or some other type of wood or acrylic, that would be greatly appriciated.

what type of les paul are you thinking of making, like the standard, custom etc?
-
lol, ive been reading through this topic, n last night i had a go, not at making a pickup winder, but at just seeing what ratio i culd acheive using gears...
it ended up, with the technics lego and gears being 9:1 it would have been mor if not for my limited amount of lego:D

G'day mate...sorry I'm in Melbourne but, despite the lack of replies so far you have come to the right place...due to time differences you'll find people active here 24/7!!! Welcome aboard...and another V...some people hear will be really pleased (sorry in joke, there are some real V officanardo's )
First off...get some pics and drawings together...
I'm not sure exactly what you're quite wanting to make...is it a normal V with collapsable wings for transport?
A through neck...you're keen.
Anyway...draw a plan...or even some rough sketches of the design and add it to this topic and I'll keep an eye on it. BTW: there are some SH parts for sale in the auction section...tuners, bridges, etc...mutronboy the seller's a nice guy...there might be something of interest that he's getting rid of...
best of luck

hey, i have heaps of sketches, n it is fully designed, i just don't have the expertise, such as soldering or finishing, equiptment, such as airbrush, and partly some of the knowledge lol, i have been researching this all of this year and last,
also i don't know how to post some of my sketches on here as they are too big to put on a website, (1MB). how do i change the size of the file. i want to put the pics on photobucket or whatever.
k thanks

I'm not quite sure, but if u'd like to post a link to them on a website or something of the such (go to geosites n create 1?)
