I got a little scared looking at your "table saw" but holy crap that's a sweet looking guitar!

WOW Shad that's awesome. I'm gonna check out your build thread.

Cherry and maple together is going to sound BRIGHT!
You're right but I like the idea of the veneer strips with the maple. I have some 8/4 sapele too but no matching veneers. Maybe I'll have to give this some more thought.

Thank for the replies! I have some 8/4 cherry I've been thinking about hollowing out and using for the back. Cherry/maple/cherry veneer might look cool at the joints on the top. Now I just have to make some time and get this project rolling.
Shad...I'm 99.9% sure it's soft maple and it's got a minor bow in it. I don't want to take any chances using it for a neck but I appreciate the input.

I found an 1x6 8' piece of gorgeous curly maple (at Home Depot of all places) and I was thinking about using it in a guitar build. I was thinking of a 3 piece top like the back in the pic because the pieces are too narrow for a 2 piece bookmatch. Do you think that would look OK? Any other opinions are appreciated. Thanks!
Inexpensive Fret Slotting Saw Ideas?
in Solidbody Guitar and Bass Chat

Hey folks. I'm looking to refret an old guitar and I'm willing to bet I'll have to deepen the fret slots a bit after sanding down the fretboard. Are there any saws available at Woodcraft/Home Depot etc. that will do the trick without ordering from Stewmac? I know Stewmac sells good stuff but I will probably only use the saw once or twice since I usually buy preslotted boards and I've had good luck that way.
If I'm just deepening the slots a bit, can I use a saw with a thinner kerf and just make a few passes using the wall of the existing slots as a guide?
Thanks for the help!
