  1. Yeah, I know this is probably a stupid question, but the active EMG's come with their own jacks. Problem is, I've got a flushmount jack, and therefore no jack plate for the EMG jack to screw into. Simple yes/no question (I think), can I just resolder the wires onto my jack and be all set?

There's nothing special about the "EMG jacK". It's just a simple stereo jack. So, if your original jack is stereo... :D

To my understanding, stereo jacks have three lugs and mono jacks have two. Someone might wanna confirm that though.

  2. contact me when your'e ready to try it and i'll be glad to walk you thru it

I'm not going to try it anytime soon as I have a few other projects still on the go, but thanks for the offer. :D

I have a question though. The wenge veneer is filling the waste that the saw blade took, am I right?

So, if I wouldnt want any spacers, how would I go about doing that?

  3. the "melted" {yes conklin rip-off} is done by overlaping the woods you want to join cut on the scroll saw... staying within the overlap... then glue them together, that one has some very thin strips of wenge seperating the main chunks..

    clamping it all together is fun too :}

i'll post some pics of the process on the next one i do if you'd like

    Please do!

I've been wondering about this whole "melting" thing. Did you get tight joints straight from the scrollsaw?

I'm guessing the wenge strips are the same width as the saw cut? I wonder if it could be done with some kind of a routing jig.

  4. Okay, folks! This is the thread for showing off other things you've made from wood.

Turnings, furniture, marquetry, carvings etc. etc. Anything goes.

I'll start by showing some of the christmas presents I made.

For my little brother I made this quattro game:

    picture2376jj4.jpg

Dark ones are mahogany and the light ones are birch. The board is oak with mahogany inserts.

I also inlayed little magnets under the pads and little screws on the knobs so they stay put. Another shot

For my mom I turned a few of these candle holders (the other one is maple).

Today I got a little bored at school and turned this "bowl" (not deep enough to really call it a bowl).

My first try at a natural edged bowl. Another shot

Share share share, people! It's nice to do something non-guitar related once in a while. :D

  5. I speak Swedish, (English), and German (although it's been a while and it's quite rusty)...I'm also able to read and communicate in other nordic languages (except finnish). And I'm now also quite sufficient in translating Australian into English

Aidlook, surely you know the loudest Finnish words like vittu and jumalauta? :D

of course i know vittu..and perkelle... My grandparents speak finnish btw....since they're born far north close to the finnish border.

Is pekelle really the god of thunder?...I bet our god of thunder (Thor) would kick your ones ass....allthough it's probably the same guy :D

Never heard him being called pekelle. In Finland we have Ukko, the god of sky, weather, crops and other natural things.

Or he could be a she, Ilmatar, the virgin goddess of the air. Not really sure. B)

Try saying "Ukko perkele!" in a low, menacing way. Or as a sort of battlecry.

Sounds like something the good ol' vikings might have said when going into battle!

Just the sound of that would make Thor cry and run home.

    Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Gallen-...f_the_Sampo.jpg

Gallen Kallela's The defence of the Sampo. Juha ruokangas (a finnish luthier) inlayed that whole picture into one of his custom carved top 7 string's.

    Here's a pic: http://www.ruokangas.com/wallpapers/kalevala_1280x1024.jpg

    Truly amazing piece of work!

  6. Okay...

Is it possible to wire 2 active EMG's to a ibanez 5 way switch (8 lugs in a row)??

    The positions would be:

    1 Bridge

    2 nothing

    3 Both

    4 nothing

    5 Neck

I think I read somewhere that those blank spots could harm your amp on really high volumes.

If it is alright, how would I go about doing that? I can't find diagram for this sort of thing anywhere.

  7. dont be embarrassed if you need help

anyhow considering you dont fully understand electronics leave out the single coil

as you cant use passive pickups with active pickups without bypass wiring

Alright then. I'm gonna leave it unwired. Thanks! :D

What about that 'green thingy' (still don't know what it's called...)? Can I make it longer by soldering some wire to the other end? Would it work?

The embarrasment thing, was because as I read through the threads here trying to find some answers, I noticed that there were a lot of threads about about pickup wiring. Some people were fed up with it and kinda pissed about it.

    This thing:

  8. I have never changed pickups in a guitar (nor wired in the first place) and I'm really confused with all this.

My guitar is an Ibanez S 2075FW Prestige. It has h/s/h stock pickups. 5 way switch. One volume and one tone pot. Been reading a lot on wiring, but I still have some questions which weren't answered anywhere.

I'm installing EMG-81 to the bridge and EMG-60 to the neck position. I'm leaving the passive single coil in place 'cause I don't like looking at an empty cavity.

The instructions strictly say that you should NOT reconnect the ground wire when installing active pickups.

Although I don't use the middle pickup all that much, It'd still be nice to have it functioning. I'm guessing it needs the ground wire. So... do I ground it or not??

Don't really want to get shocked.

Also... The volume and tone pots are pre wired with this green thingy (some capacitor?) connecting them to each other (also a black wire). The problem is that the 'thingy' is too short. The pots can't stretch far enough from each other to install them. So can I solder a small piece of wire on the 'thingy' to make it longer?

Or will it affect it in a bad way?

I'm quite embarrassed to be asking such beginner questions here, but one has to start somewhere.

To me, building a neck from scratch is much simpler!

    Thanks for all the help.

  9. Cool idea!

You can put a LOT thicker coats when the guitar is not hanging from the ceiling. I guess it would speed up the finishing process somewhat.

Looks a bit flimsy though. I wouldn't probably have the guts to put the result of my efforts hanging on a pair of pins.

But I guess that's just a prototype. (the jig, I mean) :D Also, what is that huge white line near the bottom pin? Looks like one huge scratch!

What if you're strap button aren't in the traditional spot? Can you lock it into place somehow?
