  1. Thanks everyone for the help in finding these 1 pieces. Ragas that is some fine wood working. I have a lot of large pieces of wood and I was thinking ~~~~~~. Also have a piece of 20/4 honduras 60 x 30. How large of a piece did you start with and do you think an angled neck is possible what with the grain run out , then you get even more runout if you go with an angled headstock on top of that .
  2. I was searching around the web and I saved a 1 piece superstrat / PRS type of guitar carved out of 1 solid piece of cuban mahoghany and my computer drive crashed and I can't find it again. It was really somthing to look at and I thought someone here might have a link to the same one I saw, or any other 1 pieces. ~~~~ Thanks
  3. Thanks everyone, I apreciate your help here. I was looking for an epoxy that claims to be for oily wood and the lmi smith epoxy says it is. Also I'm glad to have the Bordens alternative Doc. The reason I asked is that I have tried wiping with acetone many times on test pieces of coco and lignum and inevitably the joints fail. I also made up a few cutting boards and the joints failed with West system even though I scrubbed both sides with acetone and glued as soon as dry. So I was on Driskill's site and saw he was using something special and it looks like it might be the Lmi stuff. ~~ thanks
  4. Does anyone know the brand of epoxy that Driskill guitars uses to glue up cocobolo? He says on his web site it's special. I googled and there is one that is for oily exotics but it's pricey! I also would like anyones experience with desert ironwood gluing , wood name , Olnea Tesota .
  5. I never thought of that (cardboard washers) what a great idea I always learn something here !!!!
  6. Thanks UNC, I'll start the body this week. & post picts. along the way.
  7. I think I'l make a bolt on body as I have a spare maple neck hanging around but I'm also curious about the tone of pear it's incredibly nice to hand plane like mahogany but super fine grained like holly. As you might guess by my forum name I have been collecting fine wood for a loooong time and like my woods as much made into things as not. lol
  8. Java, get yourself a top quality thin kerf blade for your saw and you will be very happy. Also for fathers day My wife agreed I could order parts for my new project from stew mac as my Fathers Day present ---- Yeah
  9. Yeah, you need to match the sealer to your adhesive requirements, also some veneers are wrinkled and not flat and you can soften them with a mixture of glycerin and water to soften them to flatten them so they don't crack when you press them out flat before the glue down. This of ourse needs to dry before assembly.
  10. I was lucky to get a boule of pear about 10 years ago and it has been air drying up in the rafters of my shop that long. I can't bring my self to cut it up for funiture as I normally make cabinets and the like. But I think it would make a great guitar it's properties are very similar to maple and it even has some curl to it. ~~ But~~~~ I don't think i've ever heard of it being used this way, any input would be welcomed. ~~~ Jim
  11. Hi, I,m new here ~ been lurking unregistered for months. I don't know if Whitey meant this but it would be a good Idea to seal backside of veneer before gluing it down to keep it from bleeding.
