  1. What kind of pickups did you install? Are you using the stock Ibanez deep panel jack and that Otax/VLX91 5-way switch? Give us something to work with here, please.  :D

Yeah, Okay, so here's the deal, I wired it using the OTAX/VLX(! 5 way switch. I wired a Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell in teh neck , an Ibanez S1 in the middle single coil, and a Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge.

The output is all fixed now. But I could never get the S1 to work at all. Got any ideas why that is?

  2. First problem - OUTPUT. There is very weak sound when I plug in to my amp. BUUTTT there is full sound when I pull the guitar plug slightly out of the output jack. I move it back and forth and there seems to be a spot that is good.

****highly doubt I need a new output jack because it does this on two different output jacks. I'm guessing it's a wiring prob.****

I have a 5 way switch, and it only works on the 1st and 5th position. I'm guessing I spliced the middle pickup wrong.

    Any knowledge out there?

  3. Okay, here's the deal, I have two humbuckers, 4 conductor cables. Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell, and Dimarzio Evolutioni. I have a single coil space but am going to leave it empty.

Alright, so the sounds I want are: HFH only. HFH blended with Evolution. and Evolution only. Easy right? But I don't know how.

Okay, so question #2. A totally different question. If I were to use a single coil in the middle and use a 5 way switch, HOW DO YOU BLEND the Humbuckers in a HSH setup? Does that make sense?

I guess my question really is: How do switches work?

  4. Well, it doesn't kill all pots (it probably doesn't kill most), but it's definitely killed enough for me to just avoid it. Tuner cleaner doesn't, so it's my choice.

That's so weird. So even if you do everything right, sometimes the pot just dies? sorry to be so inquisitive, I just don't understand pots that well.

Another thing, Are you supposed to spray inside the pot where the parts are moving?

  5. You're probably going to have to replace that pot. As I remember, that preamp is pretty tight, so unless you've got a fair amount of experience with electronic repair, I'd recommend taking it to an amp tech. And lose the can of DeOxit, and get some old-fashioned TV tuner cleaner at your local Radio Shack - it won't strip the barnacles off a ship's hull, but at least it won't screw up your pots.

Thanks man. Yeah, it is pretty tight. My parents put together computers, I was thinking about taking it to one of their techs and seeing if they can fix it.

So the deoxit is crap, huh? Some people swear by it some say it kills pots. Why does it kill pots?

  6. Ok, so i just put together a maple bodied bolt on neck Flying v. I had not planned on doing it but i was looking around on ebay and i stumbled across a v body that i ended up winning for 28 bucks. Anyway i put it together with parts that i had around here and the pickups that i had were humbuckers from a Saga LP kit. They sound bad, the neck is extremley muddy and the neck is shrill but very powerful. What i am looking for is:

    1. A vintage type sound that is perhaps a little hotter.

    2. Preferably an Alnico 5 magnet

    3. It must have a nickle plated cover(the guitar has a mirrored pickguard and looks quite good with nicle covered pickups)

Please tell me what pickup would do this for me. I dont care what brand either. Also i should mention that the guitar is wired with 250k pots, so please keep that in mind.

What i am thinking of right now is using a SD Seth Lover in the neck and a Golden Age overwound from StewMac in the bridge, what do you guys think?

    Thanks!

    Seymour Duncan 59.
