1. Are you using high gain pedals or maxing out the gain on the amp?

2. Can you confirm (you only alluded to it) that the bridge pickup has no problems at all at the gain and volume you are talking about?

If you are using a lot of gain and the bridge is fine, try literally placing your fingers and adding some pressure on both of the neck coils during the feedback - if the feedback goes away then it should be microphonic feedback, and you will need to repot the pickup.

If you are not using gain and playing at normal volume a reasonable distance from your amp - then it could be the amp.

At the end of the day - what wrong with gigging with just a bridge pickup;)

The UT105 from maplins looks like a good unit, continuity buzzer built in.

Yes, you should use acrylic paint, and use thinner to bring it down to the right consistency. For pickups you are often screening white paint on black bobbins, and the logo types are really small, so any lateral movement of the screen is really visible. Definitely worth trying on some scrap plastic first!

I really like that switching, but something is bothering me...With so many options at your fingertips, how can you live without the *both humbuckers on together in parallel* (ie Les Paul middle position). That would put the icing on the cake!

99% of digital multimeters have a continuity feature. Look for the little speaker symbol somewhere on the rotary dial - most often at around 5 oclock for some reason!

Do the springs come into play when the pickup is raised to the height it will be when the guitar is set up? If they do, you should be OK. If you pickup cavity is deep enough, just worry about the springs, not the screw. Changing screw wont make the least bit of difference if you have got short springs!

The easiest way is to screenprint your logo on, though you will need to get a screen made. Depending on your negotiating skills, it could be as low as 20 dollars for a small screen - and you can use it again and again and again.

As to the exact routing diagrams requested, I suggest you develop you own based on the pickup outlines supplied AND the exact dimensions of your mounting rings - I wouldn't want my drawings to lead people to over route the pickup cavity and have a gaping hole visible.

Music Link is indeed their US brand and sales office - Music Link and Shanghai Super Music are the same company. The have amazing purchasing power and quantities and the poor little Tonerider stand was dwarfed by their multistory construction at the Shanghai Music Messe last year! It was enormous! I didn't see daylight for four days. They represent Martin, Squier, Hughes & Kettner, Cort, Johnson and a myriad of other brands in the Chinese market.

Most industry watchers predict that they will import some serious expertise for higher level instruments and create the first Chinese made and owned premium brand a la Ibanez....could be a few years, but it will be sooner rather than later!

Could be a stacked pickup -- one coil on top of another instead of side by side -- with a coil splitter. Flip a switch, it's a single coil. Flip it again, it's a humbucker. Just like magic.

You actually have a few ways to do this, but the most common would be just add a "neck-on" switch that can add in the signal from the neck pickup to output of the five-way IN SERIES.

But will it be a true humbucker? No...unless you have a RWRP bridge position single coil. So you could try

a. Neck pickup regular wind

b. Mid pickup regular wind

c. Bridge pickup RWRP

And then, here's a cunning part...

Reverse the positions of the bridge and mid pickup on the five way switch and you get:

Pos1: Mid only (or solid sound with NECK ON)

Pos2: Mid and Bridge in Parallel (can you say quack? also noise-cancelling)

Pos3: Bridge only (or great, noisecancelling rock sound with NECK ON)

Pos4: Neck and Bridge in Parallel (much better than Neck and Mid! also noise-cancelling)

Pos5: Neck only

They are definitely different kits from different factories, but the hardware items both come from the same factory. The AXL kit comes from the same factory that makes CIC Squier Bullets, though some of the specs are different. As for the quality, why not buy both and send us a report! You can fleabuy the guitar you like least and keep the winner!

AXL is a brand of Shanghai Super Music, and they do a lot of OEM work for Johnson, starting from Johnson's initial moves into China manufacturing from Eastern Europe in the 1990's. Johnson's actual ownership is a mystery to me still. One thing for sure, its not owned by someone called Johnson.
