  1. Give me Dave Brubeck over SRV any day of the week.

keep in mind srv was one of the most technically profficient blues guitarists in existence...he was emotion plus tecnique if i have ever heard it

I actually like quite a bit of SRV's work, and I admire his talent. The guy could have outplayed me by several miles. But Brubeck, even at his age (I want to say he's 84 at this point), absolutely blows SRV out of the water.

I meant that as a comparison between the best emotional player that came to mind, and the best technical player I could think of...

  2. Dude do not put too much in the connecting joint, depending on whether you have a bolt on or not, if you do the preferable amount is none so try and mask off just the invisible bit, the part you cant see when its in the socket.

That depends. When I bought a neck pocket template from StewMac, it was intentionally sized a bit larger to accommodate a heavy layer of paint in that area, and I had a real fun time trying to make it smaller to accommodate a tung oiled neck.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about getting paint in that area. If it's a problem, it's sandpaper time. Your guitar, your choice.

  3. Awesome.  And as an added bonus, you get to live in the lovely city of Kingston!  Just re-noticed that; I had forgotten for a while.  :D

    Greg

Heh... yep, Kingston's a beautiful city. I'm actually down in NY right now (home for the summer)...

  4. It wasn't entirely outside funded, we simply got some help with it.

At our school, we had one tech department, but there was a difference in the focus from the woodshop/autoshop courses that were taught and the professional engineering stuff that was taught. Same teachers, but two different sets of students and a different focus.

And yes, we were very lucky to have that kind of sponsorship.

  5. Ours was funded partially by a high school/university coordination program. The machines were precision mills, and weren't big enough to accommodate shop-size work. It wasn't really a robotics club; the tech department had an offshoot course called Computer Integrated Manufacturing that taught CNC programming using Inventor, WLPM 1000 and MasterCAM.

The last element of the course, on the other hand, did cover the use of robotics in manufacturing, and robotic control and programming.

  6. Additionally, unless I'm missing something, none of those include the necessary control components (the box that goes between the computer and the motors).

And CNC freeware? I don't know how far I'd trust that stuff. Most industry-standard software is just a wee bit more than free...

  7. Momentary switch engages while pressed, and resumes transfer of current when it's not (you can get the wired the other way around, but you probably wouldn't want to use that). If you want to get **** about it, there is probably a small (as in measured-in-picoseconds-small) delay in almost any switching device.

Idea: wire a resistor in there so that you can drop the volume back suddenly if you without drastically affecting the tone (you'd probably get a noticable effect if you used two very different pickups in your second option).

  8. Was it a hand-gun or a rifle? I'm assuming it was a hand-gun. I wonder if he had it legally and had a permit to carry it? Each state has it's own laws on this and I don't know anything about Ohio's laws concerning hand guns. I'd be surprised if he had it legally (permitted to carry it into the club). In that case, the right to bear arms wouldn't be relavent.

I was wondering the same thing...

  9. I was never a Pantera fan, and never really listened to their stuff, but this is just shocking and sad...

Feylya, on this side of the pond, the courts wouldn't allow anything to happen (they'd give him extra protection, police spam, etc. because the case would be so high-profile). I'm almost glad the guy's dead (which isn't really a healthy though) just so we don't have to deal with the bulls**t.

  10. And this is 3, but they are irrelevant to the point in discussion, they are relevant to the thread, which is if it is ok to hang a guitar, not if it goes out of tune, or if it gets too hot in the winter.

Dude, you understand what I meant, and I was responding to you! Not a big deal to it, the only thing that I waxs pointing out was that 2 major contributors here were arguing a pointless issue!

If the force induced by a wall hanger were enough to throw a guitar out of tune, that would not be healthy for the neck, and if enough of a force were applied, could result in damage... which is entirely relevant to the discussion.

  11. Here

My friend with the supposed TS9 said it was all black, so I am guessing that one is it (quick search on google)

Anyone had any experiance with them??

    Curtis

That's a TS-9DX. It's a regular TS-9 with two extra modes added... (hence the fourth knob on the top).

Personally, I'd go for the TS-9. And unless I'm mistaken, the TS-10 was the Tone-lok (or whatever it was) version of the Screamer.
