Yes.

I noticed that. I have a few problems with the contest in general. It seems like you loose the rights to the design by submitting it. I may be wrong about that, but at first glance, that what it seemed like.
Hmmm... while I have little doubt that Fender intends to do exactly that, I can't find where it says that in the rules, unless in some roundabout way, they expect that it comes from the "from any and all claims or damages" bit...

Just my $.02 here, but I'd just take it to Kinko's...

Excellent, thanks for all the advice.
Incedentally, I was interested in teh post that suggested I fill the holes in the neck and startr again from scratch - what would you recommend I use to fill the holes?
Dowels, I would think.

Correction: that was Seymour Duncan's site that had it.
What's the difference between your Pearly Gates pickup and the Pearly Gates Plus on a Lone Star Strat®?
The Pearly Gates is rather different than the "Pearly Gates Plus" that is on the Lone Star StratTM. The Pearly Gates Plus is only available on that guitar and not made for retail sales. The main difference in these pickups is that a Pearly Gates has Alnico II magnets, while the Pearly Gates Plus has Alnico V magnets. Alnico V magnets tend to give a brighter, glassier tone, while Alnico II magnets tend to have a warmer, rounder, more mid-rangier tone. The closest pickup available in our regular line to a Pearly Gates Plus is a '59 Model with 4-conductor cable. The '59 is an Alnico V pickup with a wind very close to that of the Pearly Gates Plus. The '59 usually comes in single conductor cable, but it can be ordered with the 4-Conductor wiring option.

There was something on Fender's site... brb.

What sort of paint did you use?
-
I'm not diggin' the slanted-pickup thing... outside of that, it looks great.
-
Binding would probably look best (perhaps black?)
-
2) I've always wanted to have an little indicator, like a small light or LED, which would change colours for each pickup selection.. Dunno, just thought it'll be cool..
That would look pretty wicked...
-
I'm going to vote veneer...

Is any type of tape preferred? I assume you don't want anything that will compress very much as you roll the bearing along it. I have duct tape, masking tape, electrical, scotch...oh, and some binding tape.
Don't use electrical... I tried it, and the bearing tore it off in about 10 seconds (if even that).

Thanks. One more thing. How do I know where to place the bridge on the body? Do I just measure how far from the nut it is in another guitar, then try to replicate that?
measure from the nut to the center of the saddles...
also, check this thread. I asked the same question, you might find some help there: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...t=0entry10353

Yeah if he does has a router already, then drill press before bandsaw.
What he said. I've been able to get away without using a bandsaw thus far, but I'm not sure I could get away without the drillpress. And going sans-router is out of the question.

Personally, I wouldn't be happy with a guitar that I made or bought that had a sub-par finish. The finish gives an idea of the quality of the entire instrument. If a builder has been meticulous enough to have a nice finish then the chances that a high standard was maintained throughout the build is higher.
It is only one of many factors in a well built guitar but it's the most obvious one.
When it comes to food, you can have the best tasting dish in front of a person but if the presentation is crappy then it can actually affect how the person 'thinks' it tastes, crappy.
I think it's similar with guitars. Especially, with a new player. You can give the illusion of a high quality guitar by having a good finish. This deffinately doesn't prove the whole thing was built well but it would still probably sell more and instill a sense of pride in a guitar for most buyers, players or builders.
I think you hit it: it's that added element of professionalism.

Would it melt?!
That's what I'm wondering...

I've got a white pickguard that I'd like to make into a black pickguard. I've got a small can of black enamel sitting around and was wondering what would happen if I sprayed the pickguard with that?
