  1. Eeep! Physcis exam on Friday!

Oh, and P90's while being single coils, are "fatter" sounding than strat type pickups. They retain the clarity of single coils, and have the guts of humbuckers.

For the "P-90 sound", listen to the song, "Bad to the Bone"...

  2. Gold being brass? I know you can still get those several places, but they just don't last.

    Here's the info from warmoth:

"New Gold colored fret wire is a tough copper alloy without Nickel and the color is similar to 12k Gold in appearance. This is not the same brass color as the Warwick wire. This is not just a "plating". It is solid throughout. "

  3. theres holes where the tuners go and also on the heel B)

umm...well to ANSWER your question.... :D

i use a clotheshanger, straighten the part the clothes usually hang on,hang it from a nail(upside down)then run the hook through the top tuner hole...

i reshape the hook just a liitle to make it run straight in the tuner holes so that the hook itself isn't in the way of the painting

Ok... thanks. The tuner holes did occur to me, but I couldn't figure out a way to hang it without blocking the paint.

  4. if you hav`nt heard of this guy already, you owe yourself to check him out. the funkiest pedal-steel guitarist ive ever seen... the only one in fact :D

have a listen to his rendition of voodoo chile.

    john

Hehe... I'm going to see them in early July when they come around here with Clapton (and yes, I'm going for Randolph, Clapton's just icing on the cake).

Definately work a look-see. Not only is he a wicked player, but he can write as well.

  5. I don't know the specs on them but the green seems to have a stronger tack than the blue. One roll of green I bought recently actually said on the label that it's for lacquer masking. I'm no finishing expert but I've done a ton of masking lately. I have a feeling that the green is used more commonly for masking when you need a nice crisp line but maybe someone else can verify that.

I used the green for some of the work I did on my tiger guitar in the "in progress" section. Most of the body was masked with sign makers transfer tape but the sides were done with the green tape.

Yep... oddly enough, I just picked some up this afternoon... the blue is medium adhesion, where as the green is very high adhesion, and one of recommended uses on the label is "laquer spraying".

Southpa: any danger of using the green on bare/sealed wood?

  6. If it's a odd color, like the metallics, take it to an automotive paint store. They have a computer that analizes the color of the paint and can match almost any color. I haved matched a one off purple metallic that I had on a Volkswagen, and it was a perfect match. The only draw back is that can't get touch up sized cans.

A lot of paint stores will match colors for you if you ask nicely enough.

BTW, Home Depot will color match for you. And if it's not exactly what you want, they'll take it back and do it over.

  7. Well the buzzing doesnt get too bad unless I click on the drive select switch .. I'm not sure what's the pupose of the switch, all it does is make the buzzing REALLY loud when i turn the gain volume higher than zero.

    James

Wait... one question: does it buzz on the clean channel (and no distortion pedals or any of that stuff)?

  8. Ok... I agree with everyone else.... Also you may want to get some practice with a steady hand... Play the game "Operation". You know the one where the dudes nose lights up when you try to remove a body part !!!!! :D

Wow... that's an old memory for ya...

BTW, like sinner said, have something over the body. It gives you a little workspace right next to what you're doing. I usually use a few layers of paper towel.

One other thing: when you're desoldering... know what you want to move and where. Get the joint hot, then move. You don't have to rush, but don't sit there with the iron on your parts for five minutes while you figure out what you're doing.

  9. No one has mentioned Orff's "Carmina Burana"

only popular as Duel of the Fates from Star Wars. no one would know it if it weren't for that movie.

im fond of "pathatique" by tsaikowski

Beethoven's 8th piano sonata "Pathetique" was so much cooler. :D

Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata would have to rank as one of my favorite songs in any genre.
