Does anyone know what value capacitors I'm supposed to use with these two pickups and 25k pots?

So I finally got hold of a cheap EMG 81 and 85 (just the pickups, I can buy the other bits myself). Now I want to get decent pots to go with them (recommendations please), what value pots should I use with these pickups, would a mix be good (different pot values for different controls).

Basically I'm looking for alternative ways of using the EMG 81/85 rather than just wiring them up like the ZW kit. I would like to wire them up for 18v but I'll need to route a battery compartment out of my guitar (and it's not one I built, Ibanez DTX120 Destroyer (VERY small cavity)).

So any of you with experience of EMGs please give your input and help me come up with something nice

Recently I've been messing with stereo inputs into my V-Amp, for example using my Boss Octaver to supply the V-Amp with the original tone, and the low tone from the octaver.

Now I was just thinking of a simple pedal with vol/tone(/overdrive) knobs, but two outputs, one the original signal, one the output of the pedal. So I could drop the tone but put the vol up to beef up a lead solo, or the opposite way round to add a bit of crunch to a bit of bridge-pickup riffage.

I guess you could basically get the same thing with 2xvol and 2xtone on the guitar itself but it'd be cheap to make. I'm planning on modifying my SD-1 so maybe if I can add an extra output jack I could try something with that.

So, ideas? Anyone know of any good uses for two outputs from a pedal. Or could I even fit a stereo jack in my guitar and just run line clean into the V-Amp and one through effects.

I don't know exactly, I would guess more than the angle is the distance from the bridge to the tailpiece/stringthru that makes a difference to the overall sound perhaps?

You should be fine if you're only taking off the strings to restring it, never leave a guitar standing without strings though. Even on my floyd equipped guitars I tend to take off all the strings to restring (plenty of experience of getting it back into tune) as i like to give the fretboard a good clean which is much easier with the strings off.

Lemon Oil here too, most importantly on my older guitars which have the more worn fretboards.

Well thanks for the idea, really I just want to put this pedal to use as my V-Amp has made it obsolete, I was hoping I could get some kind of sound from it that I can't get with my V-Amp, if not I'm not too bothered it didn't cost much anyway.

Well I don't know the exact reasons but MDF is 'made', there must be a tonal advantage to using a solid piece of hardwood. You don't have to go exotic though, there are plenty of 'cheap' (obviously more than MDF) woods that work fine for guitars.

OK, no 'boss sucks' replies please, I've had this pedal for ages and it was great back when I was using my Line 6 Spider II because it gave me overdrive ontop of the amps distortion, but I now have a V-Amp Pro and this thing is just sitting there doing nothing.

I've seen a few examples of modified pedals but no step by step of what was changed or circuit diagrams.

So, any ideas on modifications I can make to an SD-1, I'm fairly proficient in electronics and don't have any problems adding knobs, switches, or re/soldering things.

I also have an OC-3 octaver which I don't intend to modify but if anyone has heard of any mods for this pedal...

Reading S101's reviews on Harmony Central although there aren't alot there they seem to be of decent quality. However if you've been learning using a Gibson SG I would really recommend you look for something a little 'better'. Or atleast play the guitar a fair bit before you decide if it's right for you. The most important thing is that you like the way it sounds.

Word has decent vector drawing tools if you're just after headstock logo or something too.

Corel, Quark, Illustrator, Freehand, Photoshop, etc... are all a little over the top for a headstock logo. You could probably find some free vector based graphics editor on the net somewhere (I don't know where, here at work I have all the aforementioned applications installed.)

In the new year I'll be starting my first project but I'm also looking around for parts that I'd like to use on future projects (hopefully 2-3 next year).

So I'm looking for an Ibanez Edge Pro, only played a guitar with one of these trems once and loved it, still waiting to hear from someone in the US on a price but I imagine it's gonna be alot + shipping to UK probably won't be worth it. So if anyone in the UK has one....

Alternatively I've had alot of experience with Schaller Floyds and wouldn't mind one of those if I can't find an Ibanez Edge at a reasonable price, but again would most likely end up getting one from the US + the shipping....

So if any of you have a spare Edge Pro (I know unlikely) or Schaller lying around let me know.

Thanks for the replies, I will probably wait and watch ebay, there's no real hurry to get this just yet and I do want something that will look great for this guitar.

I've decided to only build the body for my first guitar, possibly an ESP F shape, and would like to do a deep red quilted maple (I love red quilt) top if that's even possible on the F shape. After looking through ebay it seems all the people selling quilted/flamed maple are in the US, while I don't mind buying something and getting it shipped I would prefer to buy something a little more local.

So I looked at craft-supplies, on their catalogue they have 3/8" bookmatched:

Now first I would like to know if someone has some examples of the difference between 3A/4A/5A and with this being my first project would I really notice the quality difference between 3A and 5A.

Now onto price, what would you pay for a bookmatched quilted maple 3/8" top, the prices from craft-supplies seem a bit much compared to what I've seen on ebay in the US.

Third and Final question, has anyone here bought top-wood from craft-supplies, would you say it's worth it, and was the quality as expected?

You should really get instructions with the gun, and it'd be different depending on what you were buying as to how long it'll last or how useful it would be to you later on (as you want to use it more).
