Well, here we go again almost 2 years after last update. Nearing the 8 year anniversary of this project. Going to try to finish this in the next few months. Ordered multiple pieces of indian rosewood for the fretboard since I botched the last attempt and didnt have a spare. I have next week off so thats when I'm going to try to get most of the work done. Hoping my posting here will urge me not to procrastinate and delay this project any further.

Here's some more work done. Gluing on some spruce:
Routed and scraped a bit. Needs more work.
Top and bottom. The pictures came out a bit blurry, not sure why but not much is lost. At the moment I'm calling it Spruce Springsteel for obvious reasons.
Gonna have to put it off for a week or two while I'm away. Top still has to be bound and bottom side rounded over and hardware stuff routed. Main business will be the neck though which is very daunting :/.

Well its been a while but I finally got started on this. One thing I have to say is that I really wish I had a proper planer. The amount of sanding, scraping and 'planing' is really starting to do my head in. I've already had a few nightmares about having to make stuff flat. I am also quite certain that in the greek mythology, in Hades, a form of torture was a roll of sandpaper and a mahogany plank that would never be flat.
Here it is glued and sawn into a rough shape.
And here are the third graded spruce tops glued up. I think they'll look a lot better after an undignified amount of sanding is done.

Might be of interest for euro guys.
Madinter is proud to present to you the revolutionary product DuPont™ Nomex® fibre. Nomex is made from Aramid paper, it is extremely light in weight and was pioneered for the aerospace and aviation industries. The guitar Double Top technology was pioneered by two German luthiers approximately 10 years ago primarily for the classical guitar world in an effort to build a classical guitar that is more efficient and produces more volume and projection. The Nomex® honeycomb fiber is available in two sizes, both with a 1/8” honeycomb. For more technical information about how to make a double-top with Nomex®, we have selected for you a detailed article from the Australian luthier Randy Reynolds, and also an interesting video of the luthier John H. Dick on Youtube.

Im sure i'm not the only one seeing this

Reverse looks supersweet.

I voted for bluesy's es because if I was ever gonna buy a custom guitar, something like that would easily be my second choice.

mmmm candy

None of the ebony I've bought has been streaked or stained...

Seems like you only have a couple of 1/4" wide pieces of wood holding up the elipse between the to partial F holes on each side. Seems pretty fragile? ? ?
An eggshell seems pretty fragile, a woody guitar made of wood strengthened with woody bracing made of wood is much stronger than it might seem.
Ps. Unless you attack it with a hammer

A pig is eating some chicken... I don't think the veggies are gonna like that.
-
Now this might sound a little strange but it's good advice: take a jigsaw, cut out the rosette making sure you don't damage it, and mail it right over here. It does wonders to the tone of your guitar... and to the appearance of mine.

What they meant is that when you leave the "hexagon pattern layer" below the burst layer you'll have the pattern when you rip off the masking in the end.

Why the huge pickguard?
-
I used two pieces for sides. I tried a single piece at first but the bending got way complicated . The neck block is in the process of being shaped and the neck itself will be attached like an electrics.
-
Few changes in the specs also. Top, back and sides will be ash and it'll have gotoh tuners. Not sure about the neck yet. I have the laminate block ready for shaping and such but I also have a nice short piece of mahogany that would make a great neck.

In autumn this project got put on stand-by because of army service but now I'm back at it. Following a crazy idea I asked David Myka if I could use his dragonfly shape because of my obsession with his work and amazingly enough he gave the project a green light. The shape isn't the exact copy of the dragonfly (flat butt) but close enough. The sides still need a bit of smoothing with "the iron" (The upper waist is way sharp) but I think its going quite nicely.
-
Pukko also had a super awesome build with a flamed birch neck.
-
No idea. Its probably more difficult to do those long bends because atleast "my" curling iron is very thin and its difficult to get longer smoothe curves.
-
I use a hair curling iron for my uke sides.
-
I don't think a dark pickguard would work well with that body.
