Hey guys. I havea hartke 8x10 bass cab and the carpet covering keeps peeling so i was thinking about re-covering it with tolex. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how to go about doing this, especially corners, thanks in advance.

i also have a quick question, is there a difference between short plate and long plate preamp tubes?

I just got an Ampeg V-50H from the guitarist in my band but im not sure where i can find what kind of tubes it takes.

Also i was wondering what types of tubes are the best. And i was shoping around for preamp tubes and i keep seeing options such as Matched Triodes and Balanced Triodes, what does that mean?

I'm feeling that it's about time for me to upgrade to a more reliable amp head. (im currently using an old acoustic b320 from the 80s). I need something with good power and a big beefy tone.

I play in a 3 piece punk/hardcore band so i need something thatis really full on the low end to make up for the lack of a second guitar.

I've had a few amps in mind . some i have played, others i've read about, and some i cant find anywhere. I was wondering what the major tone/volume differences are between tube, solid state, and hybrid bass amps?

These are some i've had in my mind:

Peavey VB-2 (cant find in any store or find any reviews)

Marshall MB450H (cant find in any store or find any reviews)

Trace Elliot AH500-7 (a tad on the expensive side)

Traynor YBA200 (how loud is 200w tube power?)

yeah, the guitarist in my band uses gfs pickups and they sound awesome

maybe i'll just buy a 5 string bass, haha. know any good five strings for less then 200?

I was wondering if instead of putting regular heavy gauge strings on my bass if i could use 5 string bass strings on a 4 string? so that way its BEAD instead of EADG. i was wondering if this would work fine or would i have to modify the nut to accept the low b.

ok, cause right now i have an emg select bass humbucker witch is really weak sounding so i was lookign for a more beefy sounding upgrade but i didn't want to do too much routing. I have an old japanese j-bass body for the 60's that i frankensteined with a new neck and electronics. There is an old bass humbucker at the neck witch it super nice soundign but i cant seem to find anything like it. I saw an old univox one on ebay a wile back that was similar but never again, hard to find this shape in bass pickups i suppose.

and also, is there anywhere i can get the dimensions?

I've been shopping around for a new bass amp and i keep reading stuff about a bi-amp feature, and the amp i have now also has this. I am just unsure as to what bi-amping is.

well as everyone said, you should have used a template and a router, but i guess you can just cut as close as possible on the bandsaw then sand it.

additional question, This amp has two speaker outputs, left and right, so if the left speaker is 8ohms and the right speaker is 8ohms does that equal a 4ohm load or is it still 8ohms?

i think im probably just going to bring it into a shop and have them clean all the pots and check the soldering joints, will prob make it sound alot better with a thorough cleaning.

I have an Acoustic Control Corp. B320 bass amp head (from the early 80's). And whats happening seems really weird to me. The only way it works is if the volume knob is at exactly 10, so i have to control the volume with the gain knob, witch would be fine if it didnt snap to each setting rather than being a regular knob. So i can pretty much have the volume really low, or way too loud, and idk how to fix this problem.

Has anyone else ever had this problem or know how to fix it?

in speaker cables the higher the gauge the better off you are, but id say 16 or 18 is perfectly fine for any player, i use a 14 gauge cable and i never had any problems.

Hi guys. I'm looking for a delay pedal or multi-effects pedal to use with my bass that wont rob my low end tone. Do you think a bossd-3 digital delay would work fine?

Also i'm looking for a distortion that wont take away my low end and still provide a nice fuzzy sound, any suggestions?

I have an Acoustic B-320 bass head thats rated 320watts at 4ohms. I was wondering what ohm cabinet i should get because i want to get a 4x10 now and add on a 2x12 or 1x15 later on.

you can get a saga kit, http://www.sagamusic.com/catalog/details.asp?ProductID=LC-10 , comes with everything you need except for the body finish. it's good for learning how everything fits together and practicing with installing electronics and whatnot.

The only companies named Maestro that i know of are a foot pedal effects company and some company out of Singapore that makes classical six string guitars so i don't think it's the same brand. But my guess is that it's probably a Korean made bass.

And i have a bass wired with two soap bars and 4 pots, mine has two volume controls, one bass tone, and one treble tone control.

I have a cheap ESP Viper-104 bass. I'm going to purchase a Gibson Thunderbird for my main bass and I'm looking to fix this bass up (new bridge/tuners, new pickups/electronics etc.). The problem is i hate the color of my bass and i can't see to find any shops online that paint bodies and necks not made at their shop.

So I'm just wondering if anyone knows anywhere i could send the body and neck to get refinished.

its a mahogony body with a Ziricote laminate top. I was thinkinga clear gloss or clear satin on the lam and like a browish dye or trans pain o n the mahogony.

I was thinking of getting a custom 5-string bass next year and i was just wondering witch woods would give me a good tone.

I play hardcore, punk, metalcore, and sometimes some heavier metal so i kinda want a wood that has alot of sustain, would give the a nice punchy tone for punk but could still add to the growling lows too.

I was looking around and i saw alot of basses are made of Ash so i was thinking that might be a good choice.

I was thinking of puting a flamed walnut laminate top on it, idk if taht would affect tone or not.

Basicly i want to know what woos would eb best for this sound.
