  1. heh

why are you assuming that i didnt search and didnt read

all im doing is lookin for clarification

more often than not the responses in over 3/4 of the diodes posts consist of "search you peon" instead of actual usefull information

now i know it gets annoyin for you mods and i appologise

for me it gets annoying to seach a forum for info when your results are replies sayin "search the forum"

    so yeh heh

    im a nub my bad

  2. true but the more info one has the better off they are in deciding

when i look up schottky diodes i see thousands of part numbers so it helps to give referance to a part number instead of a brand name

and when you normaly look up diodes you see all kinds things that throw you off if your not a electronics geek and know what to look for

silicone, recrifier, switching, zener, singal, dual, ect

all that is greek to someone who doesn't know from experience

  3. awsome

so would a distortion pedal also have low voltage diodes?

i did a mod to my ibanez ms-10 which was basicaly taking 2 sets of diodes out

i have those diodes lying around and am wondering if they would work

one set equals two diodes, so a total of 4 diodes

  4. in regards to your black ice tut

can you go into more of a descripton of what types of diodes are suitable, what their ratings should be, what to look for

maybe even go into how the ovderdrive sound is created by a diode

"low voltage schottky diodes" doesn't help me much in understanding how this tut is supposed to work

for example what is the difference between a diode you see on a distorion pedal and the ones you mentioned

  5. i have a switch setup for my bass

two emg passive jazz with a emg active preamp

i had it set up so that i can switch to passive if the battery dies, which works

but it does not reduce the ammount of drain on the battery itself, so i still go through batteries lots

so adding a switch to go from passive to active is kind of a waste, didn't really help except that it gave me a signal when the battery died and let me play in a passive mode through bypassing the battery and preamp

both passive and active sound good

though its seems that the more junk you stick between the pickup and output ofthe guitar the more you increas chances of phasing, huming, and all around crappy noise

was a novel idea but for me it wasnt worth it

  6. i would like to try this out, but im still confused as to where i can get the diodes mentioned above

so i went to radioshack to take a look

    http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp...iodes&kw=diodes

can someone point out to me which is a low voltage diode that would be comparable to passive overdirve

im not sure what to look for in diodes and why im looking for that particular type

im using two dimarzio superD's in a dual humbucker gtr, with a 3 way switch, pretty standard cfg

pelase please help me understad what to look for in diodes so i can make a clear choice

    :D:DB)

  7. Further to my post above, I just blew 90 cents on two Schottky diodes, to try that test again, with my three fairly hot single coil pups in series.

This is much better!  (than I expected) - some  credible smooth distortion, and possible to play on solos. It takes a strong touch - its not subtle.  But I even got some good sounds out of bridge and middle series out of phase.  I might find a way to wire them in.  With two back to back across the output, you lose some volume (so turn it up), since the whole point is that it clips.  Another option is to use just one diode - keeps the volume, with a different sound.

    Worth a try

    John

what are the ratings on those Schottky diodes? where did you get them? got pics?
