i guess i should haved explained the situation. i have a sanded body that i am going to stain. i have heard that a light clearcoat (as in only a few coats) brings out the tone from the tonewood better, and i was wondering the advantages and disadvantages to only having a few coats as opposed to having a lot of coats.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to putting a light clearcoat on a guitar? ive heard that it is supposed to bring out the tone of the wood, but i have also heard that it scratches easier. anyway, is the risk worth the reward?

at my school theres this no name accoustic with a popsicle stick for a bridge and like an inch of action. theres no truss rod so the neck is visibly bowed ( as in you can tell its bowed if someone is playing it) and i think the bottom is covered with electrical tape because of a hole. oh, and the frets are worn away and the nut is part of the wood.

that is the worst guitar i ever played. try and beat that.

what if i wanted to stain it? should i put the stain before the sealer, or the other way around?

ill probabibly end up doing that. just wondering, approximately how far down does sealer go?

if i did sand off all the sealer to bare wood, would the wood still be smooth? and would it still be the same size?

i wasnt giving that area any more sanding until the spot appeared. then when i sanded it, it got bigger. it probabibily is breaking through the sealer, because its left handed and thats where the gut cut meets the back, so it sticks out. so what should i do? should i sand and seal that spot, or should i sand all the sealer off the rest of it?

sorry i called it a neck. i have no idea what i was thinking .

i decided to refinish my neck. while i was sanding, i develuped this light, rough spot that gets bigger as a sand. does anybody know what it is or how to get rid of it?
