make sure the ground from the output jack is actually the ground.
it could very possibly be HOT.
-
yeah it might be worth ebaying, not sure if anyone would buy it though, you could mention it was out of a james burton guitar.
also when i mentioned he was elvis' guitarist that was a compliment not a dig i love elvis and james burton, the intro of suspicious minds is f'in hard to play, im not even sure how he played it 'fast' on the live shows in the 70's
-
lol that is strange indeed.... if it didnt say it was the james burton pickup on ebay maybe you can start an item not as described claim .
it might be cheaper to get that strat backplate and solder/glue it on (than get the grommets from fender)
also james burton was in elvis presleys band in the 70's (lead guitar)

just found somthing i remember seeing a while back
http://www.specialtyguitars.com/accessories.html
somthing like the top plate might work if you get no help from lace or ebay
-
ive seen some on ebay that look like this, i assumed they just took normal screws and the rubber tubing ?
are the holes bigger ? did it come with screws ??
i suggest contacting lace and asking them tech@lacemusic.com
http://www.agi-lace.com/contact.php
also
on this diagram they recommend 250k pots http://www.agi-lace.com/wiring/pdf/1.pdf

do a forum search for black ice or strawberry ice, it has been talked to death on these boards...
its not worth the hassle in my opinion (need very hot pickups to make it work) and yes if you swapped a tone cap with the black ice you would get variable distortion (it hardly "overdrives") just increases the grit/dirt
the stewmac blackice is a waste of money also
you can get the blackice mod by using 2 shottky diodes in Anti parrallel wiring (that means they are wired in parrallel together but one is backwards) if i remember correctly the right diode is called BAT 41 and is available on mouser.com (for a few dollars)
-
ive never found them any good, the guitar lead always seems to pull them out so i use electrosocket ones that fix in with 2 screws, if you cannot get the claw to grip the wood (not big enough) maybe that would be the best bet
-
yeah, I even pulled the cover off and resoldered that connection. I also put it in a couple of other places on the claw and same problem.
what about the other end ?
it should be on the back of a pot,
also shielding will help a lot.
-
maybe its high on purpose so it will inspire people to make their own guitar...
-
heres the lace wiring diagram .
http://www.agi-lace.com/wiring/pdf/1.pdf
green+white = GROUND
orange = HOT
Lace Transensors (incl. Alumitone) use different pots as well (can't remember the value).250k, 500k and 1meg (mine do anyway).

isnt the name wrong as well ? i thought it was called FrankenStrat
maybe a copyright issue with fender or somthing ?
-
supposedly they are made in the fender factory now, since fender make decent guitars i would imagine they quality has stayed the same
-
you can get access to the download section by donating i think.

Just a word of advice... by all means, if you want to convert to four-conductor go ahead, but i'd suggest picking up a really cheap and crappy pickup to practice on first. It's really easy to break one of the fine wires wound around the bobbins and make a mess of things.
I'm also a fan of messing around with as many cheap pickups as possible, you never know when you'll stumble across something with some mojo
ive done this many times, its very good advice
ive practiced with many strat single coils and when i first started (when soldering pickup wire together) i would always end up melting the wire with my soldering iron...
-
i dont like it.
plus its €2700 , expecting us to buy one ?
-
the black ice is a waste imo, a lot of effort for not much return, ive tried it 2-3 times and the output isnt worth shouting about although with the right pickups (high output) it does work.
the diodes have to be wired up Anti parrallel for it to work properly

the bandwidth runs out at the end of the month (happens on a couple of other forums i go on)
i think the sustainer thread eats up a lot of it, lots of pictures and not always resized, direct links would be a lot better.

oh ok, they are spoofing the godfather just so you know.

"Don Corleone, I am honored to be invited to your home on the day of your daughter's wedding."
haha family guy anyone anyone??
whats that got to do with family guy ?
-
my friend bought a battered one on ebay for about £70
-
its expensive because its not as simple as doing a swirl, cuz i think they use some magical machine. i read somewhere, mayb on ed's site that you can do it with cottonballs and razors and other things to get the same effect.
is this more of what u want or do u like the ones on eds site more?

cant get those links to work but theres 1 here.

i was just replying to this "a distortion switch (by having 1 pot really low and the other really loud)"
makes it sound like the op wanted to have 2 pots inline one low and one high,
having 2 500k pots to deal with would double the amount of resistance surely ?
maybe im visualizing it wrong, idk
also
shunting one of the pots with a cap would just be a big treble sucker (depending how big the cap was).
-
firstly i dont see how 2 volumes can produce distortion (its just going to double the resistance)
you could connect the hot part of the pickup to the common lug (center) then put the pots on the left and right lugs and wire the output jack to both pots, this should give you selectable volumes,
as for using it as a kill switch its not going to be practical (and as other people will say, without sending the hot to ground when in the kill posistion, there will be a Popping sound everytime you select that posistion)
-
nope that wont work, the second volume pot is only connected to the output jack (the right one)
also is the 3way switch on/on/on ? or on/off/on in the center posistion i assume you want it to kill ?

yes it would still work, the pickup would just be like it was reversed
if you want to check it have a look at the wires comming from the output jack and where they go from there, the hot wants to go to the tip (bit that touches the tip of the jack)
