  1. The gaps between the frets would be too small to use unless you had a massive scale length (or tiny fingers).

I believe there is an old Allan Holdsworth signature model (not his current Carvin one) that had 27 or 28 frets, but their usefulness is questionable.

  2. How do stacked humbuckers work? I know some strat replacements are stacked humbuckers. Is it just like a folding humbucker in half or is there something more complicated going on? Assuming it is two coils on top of each other is the bottom coil just for hum cancelling or does it add to the sound of the pickup as well?

Has anybody ever used them? Do they have a single coil or a humbucker sound? Or perhaps a mixture?

    Thanks,

    Jon

  3. I've always found scooped mids sound great at home at low volumes but when playing with a band at high volume the guitar seems to "disappear" under the other instruments. I think it's because the bass takes the lows and the hihat the highs leaving the mids for guitar. I recently read that Kerry King of Slayer actually boosts his mids to give a more powerful sound.

  4. My gig advice would be bring at least 2 of everything (if you can). 2 guitars, 2 amps, 2 speakers leads, 2 foot pedals, etc. This has always helped me in those terrible moments when your amp doesn't switch on 10 minutes before you start.
