  1. Hello there, well i've finally got the to stage where I'm about 96% finished and would like to logo my guitar, I've tried the Decal method on a few test pieces without success as it just looked like.... well a decal stuck on, because I'm using a satin finish you can see where theoutline of where the logo has been cut.

So thought if I used a stencil and sprayed it on it would yield much cleaner results. and due to it's size it's very fiddly to cut

wondered if anyone has done a headstock this way or knows of any places that offer a stencil cutting service?

    Cheers :D

  2. Welcome back to the solos, love the wah :D

    What do you think?

Absoloutley dreadfull, I think the wah and the feel they went for works with "That was just your life" and "My Apocolypse", but everything else is just awfull, there not thought out

and are just wah drenched ramblings, pasted together in pro tools, watching the Making of DVD with lars there saying "that was awesom dude" I couldn't believe it, it's like are you listening to the same stuff we are? There are certain harmony parts I like, but the wah solos are dreadfull. I think he needs to go and give Joe Satriani a call again and get some more lessons from him.

Is good to have the Mighty Het back on form again, some nice lyrics and riffs. The album is far from classic material, but has some damn catchy tunes on it.

I dig it but not for the solos

  3. I just routed my second Ash body on my home made router table with crappy router.

The first body I did, I sanded it right down to get rid of most of the excess bar a couple of mm, used a brand new 38mm Depth template cutter, and in various parts it ripped the hell out of it

causing me to have to redesign certain areas.

A few days ago I bout a new 12.7mm depth cutter, to route half of the body all the way round and then take of the template and do the rest. Didn't get even the slightest chip or tear out, and had left a fair bit on after the rough cutting too.

So for me now I'd prefer to use a smaller depth cutter nibble away a bit and take my time. worked for me like a charm, I'd reccomend taking as much excess of first tho to be on the safe side and for the health of the cutter :D

  4. ok not to condesend anynone but their is a button usualy on the right hand portion of the keyboard that is lettered "PrtScn" if this is pressed while holding down Ctrl it will take a snapshot of whatever

is on screen at that time essentially saving it to clipboard. the easiest way to vioew what you have copied is to thw go to "paint" "edit" and then "paste" which should paste in teh image you have copied on screen :D

please forgive the spelling mistakes as I am rather Drunk :o) merry xmas to one and ALL

  5. Hello well I recently got my cast off B) yay after having broken my arm 4 months ago, and was so excited about being able to do stuff again i jumped back in and started doing what I'd been planing all these months, cracking on with my explorer build. But lets just say my arm isn't what it used to be just yet and my accuracy in using chisels is a bit lacking so the neck and body join result is far from nice :D

has anyone used the PRS tenon using the Myka jig to do a Explorer style guitar? I'm just worried about if there will be enough would at the sides of the pocket if you get my drift. Or if there is an easier way of making a Gibson style tenon using a jig?

If anyone has some pictures of a Explorer build using the PRS style tenon that would be cool to see

I'd post a picture of the join but it's so bad I'm embarrassed, :D the next build will be good tho......I hope

    Cheers

    Andy

  6. I used to have that exact same model, the eerie dess swirl. I waited months for it. Paid a mint for it too as this was before the Fender take over and all the prices were almost halved :D and have to say it looked really cool but the guitar itself had some of the worst finishing and quality control ever.

The case didn't support the guitar so it banged about inside when you were carrying it.

The paint chipped off in numerouse places, the lacquer on the neck was put on that thin that I actually wore spots off it and the neck tuirned green in parts....all this within 4 months.

It came with pickup surrounds screwed down too tight that they broke and cracked the surrounds, and the electrics kept cutting out due to a dodgy pot. so all in all it was a piece off poo that looked nice from a distance.

Tried to get my money back but was told I couldn't because of the recent take over and all prices have dropped. So I ended up looseing a few hundred pounds and the staff at Shite Control in Manchester the Salford branch were about as useful and helpful as a bunch of monkeys in a banana factory. Anyway that was a few years ago but like the murphys I'm not bitter :D

but yeah cool paint job if it stays on the guitar long enough

  7. Yeah I checked out that stew mac guide before hand. I just thought it may turn out cool.. or maybe not. And see if anyone had done similar with good or bad results or had any ideas of there own on a better way of enhancing the grain.

I've done a few guitars before stained and solid but like I said that was a few years ago and alot has been forgoten since then :D thanks for the suggestions Sand Paper.

  8. Hello one and all, it's been a while since my last post as many things have happened since i was last on here, such as moving house and more recently broken limbs B) broken arm to be exact check out the snaptastic x ray and cast on my other post :D

Anyway back to the topic in hand I've got a V that will be finished pretty soon when I'm back in action and am going for a translucent finish as the grain looks pretty cool. I'd like to have the grain really dark in contrast to the red I'm going to use. And seeing as it's been a few years since I painted or stained anything I just thought I'd post this to maske sure I'm on the right track.

When I was back in college I'm sure there was a lad who stained his guitar black, (actually by mistake I think) he then wiped off most of the excess black and later sanded it back so the main grain was still dark. and then put on a red stain. Which made the grain stand out against the red. I think that was the way anyway like i said it's been a few years since then.

So what I'm after is the best way to enhance the grain on my Ash V so that it's really dark against the the red which I'm going to finish it off with as I think it will look cool with all the black hardware.

here a pick off the suspect in question http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v661/Dir...cksonStyleV.jpg

It's just setup to check everything at the mo, it will have either two vols and a switch or Vol and tone

thanks for comments or suggestions :D

  9. well I'll hopefully make the order this coming week, and Axminster are usually pretty speedy with there delivery, and I should also be going to Craft Supplies in Buxton aswell, to get some wood for 2 new projects. so will endeaver try to make up a photo review and such.

Hey racer have you checked out any night schools or colleges that run guitar building courses in your area? thats how I got into it, it's only my hobby but it's a damn fun one. It is pretty exspensive at times, I just try and put a bit asside each week or month and save up for the main tools such as router and piller drill, the other stuff like router tables, work bench etc I made from bit's of wood I found and scrounged off friends. The main problem for me is getting them sprayed at the moment as I have 1 waiting and another well on it's way but am gonna contact the local college and see if they can help me out at all.

no problem about the vids by the way, if i find anymore I'll put up a post about them :D

  10. Hello

I've checked a few places and done some searches but couldn't find any so was wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction.

I'm basically after some pretty bright, vivid Yellow knobs, and pickup surrounds for the guitar I'm about to start on.

Kinda similar to the Ibanez jem type stuff Steve Vai used to play in the 80's those kind of bright colours. Otherwise I'll have to get my paint's out I guess, :D

cheers for any help you may be able to give :D

  11. Sounds like you may have been checking out Wayne Charvel's vids. If you haven't you really should. Some REALLY cool stuff to watch. Made me wish I had a pin router.

Guilty as charged :D Yeah I downloaded the Wayne Charvel ones a while back and found them the other day on a disc, there are some really nice video tours aswell on YouTube and Google video from Gibson, Fender Hamer etc. And there essentially hand made guitars.....by Robbie the robot who happens to look like a CNC machine :D

I think I'm goona take the plunge and go for it, looked more into it last night and it just seems a way better and safer way to rout certain things. So as long as I can get it spot on centered then it should work a treat.

theres also a brilliant video of Gibson making the Eric Clapton 335 replica, on Google video which is 55mins long. Which was excellent I'd recommend watching it. stick it in the search and I'm sure it will come up.

I'l stick a few pix up when I get my Pin system up and running and let you know the results.

    Thanks the reply's guys B)

  12. some defo good points about the template being safer for sure, I bought a template cutter a while back and when routing my body the bearing on the cutter loosend its self and slid down thus me taking a nice big chunk out of the template and body.... I was not amused :D

I guess centring it and getting it bob on will be the hardest part about it.... and making sure you've remebered to get the right size Pin to the cutter :D

  13. Hello fellow tinkerers and builders

I've been using my trusty home built router table for a year or so now and it's done its job pretty good to say It was my first go at doing one. I've been watching a few guitar building videos around on the net and such and noticed alot of of people using the Pin Routing system for doing bodies, cavities etc, it seems like a really handy fixture to add onto my table.

I was just wondering if anyone here uses them on there's and if they prefer using them to the standard table, basically pro's and con's. I'm looking at the axminster one by the way. :D

    Cheers for any info :D

  14. Hi

I was looking at a couple of pictures of ESP guitars recently and found they seem to be using metal battery boxes on some of there models, instead of the plastic ones.

I've just used a plastic Gotoh box and wasn't really that impressed with the sturdyness of it, and found it difficult to open at times, as I have problems with my fingers. Plus the fact that 10 mins after I opened it I found that one of the solded wires had decided to make an escape for it and had to hunt it down on the floor.

I was just wondering if anyone has used the metal ones on a hand built and where to get them or if they are just available on ESP guitars?

    here's a picture that I found if you haven't a clue what i'm on about :D

    IMGA0091.jpg

Oh and is it just me or does anybody else have to right click and save a guitar picture that they like and see on the net, I must have 200+ pictures now am I normal or does anybody else suffer this affliction :D

anyway cheers for any replys......and pictures they may want to post B)

  15. Thanks for the reply guys, as far as noise and space are concerned that really isn't an issue as I have quite a large workshop, plus a garage not in use and no neighbours. I'm damn lucky really.

What has got me thinking about compressors is that a few of the hardware strores around me and online have got sales on and there are a few compressor deals for sale under and around £100.... my christmas savings and all :D .

I was looking at something like this for instance, if it would be suitable just for my guitars and nothing much else that involve paint spraying.

thanks once again for the reply's :D

  16. Hello Everyone Happy New Year

I have read a few questions regarding compressor's, and I have read lot's of questions and answers regarding spray guns and such but couldn't find as much info on compressors, and wondered if someone could just shed a bit of light onto what size tanks, motors, psi etc they use and have found the best for spraying their guitars.

I have sprayed guitars before at college a few years back but would like to try a small workshop setup at some point this year, mainly for hobby use. As I only make a few guitars a year. and do have a couple almost ready for spraying that I'd like to finish off.

so if anyone could shed a bit of there experineces and technical knolledge with various compressor sizes I would be most grateful

Oh here's a picture of my V needs a load more sanding and stuff but couldn't resist trying it all out for a while first.... only just noticed the EMG is wrong way round too ha...oh well :D

    Thanks

    Andy :D
