Fretboard finish is Tru-Oil - as originally requested before I messed around with the finish.

This guitar is now complete and here are some pre-setup photos.With regards to the confusion over the change to original finish; the guitar was a custom order from an existing customer who is putting it up for resale (I shall say no more to avoid breaching any rules about advertising, etc, and to respect my customer's privacy). Originally solid black/gloss lacquer, I got permission to apply an alternative finish when I became aware of my customer's intentions for this guitar...

A little change... for the better?
It was decided that the clear coat finish would go and we'd experiment a little with a "distressed" finish (black stain and Tru-Oil)...
Final oil coats have been applied, so this one will be completed within the next week.

Interesting headstock. Reminds me of the warrior bugs in Starship Troopers.
No idea what these warrior bugs look like, but also resembles a Stag Beetle's pinchers to a degree.

Cleaned up the scarf joint (glue squeeze-out on the neck face) and installed the truss rod this afternoon...
Also cut the rough body shape on the bandsaw...

You can sand earlier but it is buffing that benefits from a little time.
Yes, I agree. In fact, it's already been wet sanded flat, I did this yesterday. The guitar is currently hanging up and looking rather dull at the moment

I'm using SprayMax 2-part Polyurethane lacquer from a can. I'm not baking it (don't have the facilities), so I like to leave it at least 72 hours to ensure it's fully cured.

Will leave for a few days to ensure it's fully cured before wet sanding flat, buffing and polishing.

Serpentine Guitars has been offline again for a while, at least where forums are concerned, whilst the website is revamped and I work on some new body/headstock shape designs (which can be found on the website if you look carefully). We've also branched out into the repairs side of the business, so that's meant spending some time working on advertising, etc.However, we have not stopped building guitars and in addition to some forthcoming stock builds to show off our Meta-V and Xothermic body shapes, we are currently working on a custom DC for a repeat client from Switzerland.Although this one does not look too exciting from the outside, my client has chosen his specification for an all-round balanced guitar, featuring Alder body, Maple neck, Birdseye Maple fretboard, WD (Gotoh-made) fixed bridge, Schaller machine heads and BKP Warpig neck and bridge set.Birdseye Maple fretboard; slotted, glued to the neck and wiped with spirits...
A rarity for SG - we don't often make bolt-ons, so nice to do something different for a change...
Neck fit test - no screws here...
Alder DC body with standard routs, mounts and contours...
And the back...
There's a little tidying up to do and some final sanding before this one is stained black and sprayed with lacquer. -
Should have finished it and put it up as just a spec-built sale IMO.
Oh well, someone will make it their joy.

I would've done had it not been in the workshop since March. To be honest, there'd be no real profit once I'd paid out for hardware and finish, etc. I was very happy with the guitar itself, especially the Ash, Flame Maple and Rosewood combo, but I had to sell it on the first chance I had to recoup my costs, which I just about did.

Just pinched these off the eBay listing (sorry for grainy quality)... The problem was contractual, nothing to do with the guitar or workmanship

Not sure this site is a good place to expend your marketing efforts... We all generally build for ourselves here.
Look forward to the in progress threads though!

Thanks for the tip. To be honest, my original post was as much about promoting the competition I was running at the time as it was promoting the business.

Sorry, are you saying you can't see the photos I've posted in the last two replies? Or are you asking if these are new photos/guitars, if so, you'd like to see the old (deleted) photos too?

My apologies to those who were following this build. Unfortunately, due to a technical hitch, the build was terminated and the guitar sold in its unfinished state to someone else.
Here are the only photos I have available...
I have new builds in progress, but find it difficult to fit in time to keep up-to-date online. I hope to get on top of things in 2014, so watch this space!
