  1. First I gotta say thanks for this website! So much useful information on here. I love just browsing everyone's threads and unconsciously absorbing information.

    I've recently jumped into guitar building, and I figured I'd actually post some pics for people to see them. I had no prior experience with woodworking. However, my dad used to build all kinds of things so I luckily had access to many tools. This site, and my dad's tips have helped me out tremendously.

    I've got 2 original shapes here. On both guitars I've used a premade neck from guitarpartsonline. My next build I plan on making the neck myself. These guitars are made out of plywood I had laying around... (albeit higher quality, very old plywood)

    Here's my first build (Painted the stripes to pretend it's a neck-thru, lol)

    Hard to see in the photo, but the second guitar I've recessed the bridge. It turned out pretty sweet looking. I used the wiring diagram I posted over in the electronics area, it works great, and it's a lot of fun to play around with.

    I documented both builds to an extent on my photobucket if anyone it interested in looking.

    I'm not sure what type of neck I should build first, A bolt on or a set neck? I figure a bolt on would be safer. Any thoughts or incite would be appreciated.

  2. Looks good to me as a concept. I love semi coil taps! An old and unfairly uncommon idea. Another approach is to have the coil tapped out using the equivalent of a tone pot, however I'll stop before I turn this into a coil tapping conversation. The kill switch would be better as an SPST/SPDT switch as they are physically smaller and marginally lighter to switch. Star grounding looks like a good choice. Look forward to hearing it!

    You're right about the switch, which is going to be great as I've found a switch that will match the p/u selector.

  3. Variable coil tapping is an interesting idea, never heard of it before.

    As far as I can tell your scheme will work. My only comment is that the way you've wired up the push-pull switch on the lower pot will mean that the coil tap selection on the two humbuckers will be the opposite for each pickup (up = bridge pickup outer coil & neck pickup inner coil, down = bridge inner and neck outer). Not sure if it was intentional, and it will still work, but if it isn't an issue for you then by all means build it up and try it out.

    Thanks for taking the time to look this over. From what I think I know, I have it the way I want it (I'd like the tapped pairs to be humbucking) But as long as there aren't any glaring mistakes in my plan, I'll take it to the trial and error stage.

    I can't test it out just yet, but when I do, I'll report back how it goes.

  4. Hello all. I've been a lurker for a little while now, but I'm just now registering because I need help with a wiring layout. Hopefully my drawing isn't too ambiguous. I've used Seymour Duncan Coloring on the Pickups.

    Basically, will this work?

    Layout - 2 humbucker, 3-way toggle, 2 push/pull pots, 2-way mini toggle

    My intent is to have a standard 3 way pickup selector toggle, a 2 way toggle as a master on/off switch.

    Push/pull pot 1 - Knob going to be a variable knob for blending an amount of coil split on the bridge pickup, the coil to be effected will be selected with push/pull. Down will be outer coils, up will be inner coils.

    Push/pull pot 2 - Knob will control the blend of coil split on the neck pickup, coil to be effected will be selected with the previous push/pull pot. The push/pull function of this one will bephase switching of the neck pickup.

    Though I'm honestly not sure I've understood correctly.

    Is there anyone here who can confirm or deny my schematic? And maybe help me figure it out, if it's possible with my available hardware. I'm not sure if this makes any sense at all... heh.
