  1. Thanks jtmullet, I will try on a piece of solid wood to go any further. Another question I have is, what is the distance between the saddle and the 12th fret I have to mesure? I think It's called the center of intonation... Should I use the same as my American made Fender as a reference or it varies?

Thank you for all your help. Really.

It depends on what the fret scale is. On a fender strat for instance it has a 25 1/2 in fret scale so when you have the sadles on the bridge centered to where there is a equal amount of adjustment forword and backword the saddle would be 25 1/2 in from the nut. But say its got a 24 3/4 fret scale like a gibson (wich technically is a 24 9/16 scale but for arguments sake will just say its 24 3/4) the sadles would 24 3/4 in from the nut.

  2. ...or if anybody here has a Ibanez Jem and is kind enough to take the dimensions, I think it is the same bridge...

Hello I have done some looking for you and havent found anything either really your best bet is trial and error.First try out doing a rout according to the diminsions in that catalog into a 2x4 or something. If it doesn't work just trace around your trem making it a little bigger to allow for some moving room and rout that at different depths into the 2x4 until you find the sweet spot. The depths are probably very similar to a floyd roses cause I don't think ibanez would try to reinvent the whole wheel. If you need some more help pm me and I might be able to draw some up for you.Best regards cheers.

  3. I know this is kinda a afro engineering way of doing it but it should work.

First you can make this router circle jig

Then just set it up to cut a 14 in radius in some mdf or plywood then once you've got your 14 in radius hole just cut it into sections and glue them one on top of the other for as thick as you need then you should be good to go.

  4. I would recomend staying away from the noiseless pickups pickups cause although it has less hum they have to cut down the pickups power to do so witch in turn I think makes them kinda sterile sounding I would recomend finding a good boutiqe pickup maker you could ask around on a telecaster forum to see what everyone has to say pickup wise and then look into investing in a eh humdebugger or just do a really really good shielding job.

i've heard pretty good things about them though. like good reviews etc. and relatively hot compared in DC resistance compared to most 'real' tele single coils. And a shielding job, no matter how good is it isn't gonna get rid of that 60hz hum. That's not what shielding is used for. Its a basic phenomena solely linked to single coil pups. Trust me, all my electric guitars are shielded with copper tape, and it doesn't eliminate the "single-coil hum", it just grounds/neutralizes all the damn IF or radio, etc.. waves.

Firstly I'm not saying they are a bad pickup I am just saying there are beter pickups to be had in the price range also it's very true that just a good shielding job won't eliminate hum however it can be done I have seen one guitar that was shielded by a big carlos santa fan if I remember corectly but don't quote me on that but he hand cut strips of copper glued them in every cavity then he sodered all the overlaping pieces together and there was no hum what so ever and beleive me I tried. But once I found the humdebugger I was convinced that if hum bothers you that this thing is the best way to go.

  6. I am looking to build a one piece maple neck for a strat body which I bought. I know where I can get wood, but I don't know where I can get a neck jig. I am looking for something like in Melvyn Hiscocks book (when he makes the tele neck) but I need it for a strat with a 50's head. I was also wondering where I could get the other jigs he uses for the neck, like the curved one for cutting the truss rod channel and the one for drilling the wholes at each end of the neck. Sorry If that is kind of vague. Will I just have to make these jigs myself?

    Thanks

As far as the rails for routing the truss rod yeah you will probably have to make them yourself but if this is your first neck build I would recomend a hot rod truss rod as they don't requier a curved channel but as far as a neck template you can get one here guitar building templates

    I hope this helps cheers.

  7. I am looking to invest in one and am wondering who still makes them I know grizzly does but I have heard bad things about them saying the switches go out and that his came and the router was out of alignment with the bearing with no way to adjust it.I know you can buy old used ones on ebay for good prices but if possible I'd prefer to buy something new with some safety features.

  8. Very carefully sorry just joking what you can do is just go into a local sign shop with whatever logo you want and the should be able to make a paint mask for you then you just stick it on paint and presto thats what I did in the past when a guitar player wanted his band logo on his pickups.

  9. Neal Moser discussed the fact that he is now using Dr. Duck Ax Wax to finish his walnut templar guitars. I looked Dr. Duck up on EBay and he has a ton of positive feedback. I ordered a small supply of it to try out but has anyone used this to finish a guitar yet? How does it work? I trust Neal but I was wondering what the majority thinks.

The musicstore i work at carries doctor duck strings and polish all really good stuff but i never used any of there stuff finish a guitar though

  10. Hellow all i am building a les paul style guitar an am wanting to sunburst the back to match the maple top like on the lat 70s deluxes how would i go about doing this i would assume i would bleach the mahogany but even if I did that I am unsure if the color would match.

This is kinda whatim goin for UEgib3.jpg
