I'm sure if he has that much confidence then he probably can. If he is going to be able to pull it off, he should be the one doing the legwork unless he already has a plan.

Thanks Saber. I do have those shields grounded to the volume pot with along with the green wire coming out of the jacket. It makes for a lot of wires going to the top of the volume pot. I can say I love these pickups and will probably continue to play them like they are for now. Then I will take Speedy's advice and try to quiet this beast by using all the techniques from Guitarnuts. It is so hard to get everything onto the top of that volume pot so I think using the method described there might make it easier to solder too.

Scott, you've got to try this combination. I love it. With every click of the selector switch I get a totally different and great tone. There is absolutely no mud at all, it sounds beautiful. Going from Air Norton to TZ while playing clean is like kicking in a warm overdrive pedal.

I love it and got to say thanks to Brian. I ordered these from him and he was able to get the pickups I wanted for the best price around (F series even). Where else can you pick your pickups and the guy knows exactly what switch and pots you need plus he through in extra wire and a blue pickup cover for my Blue Velvet.

The Dimarzio tech said if the hum goes away when I touch the strings, it sounds like it is wired correctly because all passive pups have a little hum. But mine hums like crazy. I've never used custom pickups before though so maybe these are just really hot?

The springs are a little rusty... this wouldn't prevent the bridge from grounding with the claw would it?

Will it hold that cat and his hard hat to the bottom of an I-Beam suspended way up in the sky?

The only things this diagram doesn't show that I've done is the ground wire I have going from the claw in the tremelo cavity to the top of the volume pot.

I just put the TZ in my RG 470 (Test Guitar) along with a Blue Velvet and a Air Norton. All of these Pups sound great. I'm amazed at the clarity I get from the String dynamics in all positions.

I was hoping to find the most versatile pup combination and after hearing others opinions I decided on these. I can't believe how good these sound. My TZ sounds just like the sound sample on Dimarzio's site... I can't believe it. All these pickups sound good whether clean or distorted, it's amazing.

My only complaint is the hum when I'm not touching the bridge but this is a wiring issue due to the fact that I am a complete projectguitar newbie However, I always touch the bridge (or strings) while playing so it doesn't hum much.

I would like to completely loose the hum if anyone has any suggestions? I've wired them just like the H-S-H diagram on Dimarzio's site and have a ground going from the claw to the top of the volume pot.

My up-and-coming electronics professor had this to say when I asked him:

"I recommend you to get a Auto Range multi-meter which has volts-ohms-capacitor-transistor-diode-...the Auto Range is important which means you do not have to set a value to be measured it automatically does it for you. It would run you around $100.00"

I'm going to see if he will recommend one too me.

Hey Kevan, I've heard of Fluke before. Can you send me a link to an online store that carries Fluke Multimeters. I did a search and came up with several but if you have a trusted one, I'd like to know. I also noticed that Fluke makes many different models... what should I look for? The 87 was about $350. That is out of my price range. I might have to stay with the RS ones.

Hey guys. I start electronics classes next month plus I'm about to install my newly purchased Dimarzio Pickups. Can someone recommend a nice, reliable multimeter. I don't want to pay and arm and a leg but I still want something that will last a long time providing accurate readings.

To get back to the main point of this thread... I have been suprised how generous Jeremy is at giving detailed instruction about how to do things. A lot of business people would just tell us to send it to them and they will do it for a fee. I think I get what he is saying when he says how could he be just doing things to gain business when everything he does here is really keeping him from getting business because he is showing us how to do it ourselves.

I was especially suprised that he gave me the details of his custom paint job on that cool Floral Jem.

BTW, I'd like to see more pics too Jeremy!

I actually did live near Jacksonville, AR. My high school was in Jax right next to the Air Force Base. I'm about 2-3 hours from Jax, FL now though.

Also, I spent my first semester of college at Monticello. Then decided to leave and go to UALR to be closer to home. I thought you said you were from the intelligent part just kidding. It's nice country down there once you get past Pine Bluff.

Whilst at Home Depot today picking up a $15 Weller soldering iron, I noticed they are making the Dremel a little more beefy these days. They even had various accessories... One turned it into a router with it's own nice little stand and another turned it into a drill press. It seemed to me that these would be great accessories for certain jobs building and modding guitars. What's the general census on this tool and these accesories? I've seen Brian's cool tutorial on making a router stand for one.

I also notice several tools less than $100 dollars (mostly made by Ryobi) that seemed to be perfect for projects and were small enough to tuck away when finished. Gone are the days of having to get huge and expensive wood working tools I guess. I'm making my list

Man, I love that JEM77BLFP. I saw that several months back and it stuck in my head that it was made (painted) by Ibanez... but I couldn't find any documentation on it anywhere... now I know why. You designed it!

When you say you hand painted the graphics did you just use a small paint brush? Then you just clear over it without any sanding on the hand painted graphics until the clear is on? I have some artistic friends that could paint on my guitar for me then I could do the solids and clears myself.

Actually, Brian sells the Dimarzio pickups on his website. He has both regular and F-Spaced for the same price (brand new) and in every color (most places don't carry different colors). I find that many places don't sell F-spaced pups of some models like the Air Norton, Fred, etc... which are pups I'm considering. If I get them and want F-spaced, Brian is the only one I have found that even sells them. Plus his prices are as good as or better than anyone else's. The only downfall for me is I'll have to pay FL sales tax

Brian, I've spent some time looking at some of your tutorials and have to say that you are one of the cleverist people I've ever known of... you wouldn't be doubling as a rocket scientist over there on the space coast would you?

I really appreciate this site and I'm about to get into this stuff myself. I just need to acquire some good tools first.

I am wanting to do the same thing so if you come across a pattern like the JEM77FP, please let me know where you found it. I think I will search some fabric stores and see if there is something else I might like better. I have an RG470 that I acquired off ebay and it somehow managed to come with an RG550 neck (Wizard... at least it looks and feels JUST LIKE my RG570) which should make a great project guitar. I plan on doing the TRS to Hardtail conversion with it also.

I was just looking through my PG Intense Rock II book and saw a pic of him playing with a drill. In the pic I noticed that he had taken out the FR Bridge and just placed a fix bridge down in the trem cavity.
