looks really neck heavy..
-
Looks fantastic!

...by the way. The guitar looks great!!
Identical pickups would have looked even better.
-
i have one strat with a brass nut (malmsteen model) Does it sound "better" than any other strat? Absolutely not!
-
I really dont see the point...What are you going to do with this guitar? If you are going to use different tunings, it helps.
-
Ive heard that Steve Vai is going to have this on his guitars now.
-
Buy something YOU like. Asking for opinions about what pups you should have is like asking about what you should have for dinner tomorrow.

I really understand why he doesnt want to show us how that "thing" sounds like I would love to see him tune up that thing. I also wonder if theres a pickup under that cover at all..
-
Tonezone pickup, heavy strings and tune down to d. Youre maple body will love it!
-
it makes a makes a difference...but not as much as youre amp, youre strings, youre pickups or youre fingers and picks. Thats my opinion on the subject. I bet Van Halen (and/or the worst player in the world) would sound just like himself if he had either played on my all maple guitar or my mahogany/ebony guitar.

Here one guy not happy with a fender.

Fantastic! im youre number one fan.
.. i would like to see em with walnut knobs.

Yes a double bass might be a bit neck heavy.. im going to use hipshot lite tuners and make a long upper horn.
youre right aidlook. I dont need separate volume for each bass. but i think i will go for separate blend and tone
so this is what i have so far
-three way switch on upper horn. fretless-both-8string
-master volume on lower horn
-blend, tone, blend, tone under 8string bridge
-two outputs with a three way switch for each. That way i can use two rigs and send each bass to either rig1, rig2 or both. Hope that works. I have some looping ideas and i think that might be cool.
im not in a hurry about this project, but for those interested i will add some pics when i have something to show. Im not in the same leauge as most of you other folks here, so i think i will need some input on this one:)

i agree with you. Less is more.. But i have some plans for this bass and that plan gives me 10 knobs and switches..and that will not look good. i have to come up with something clever.
I have never played a double neck before, so im a bit afraid about the balance. What about yours Erik? is it neckheavy?
-
Im planning to biuld a double neck bass. One of my concernes is that it will be to many knobs, and i dont think that looks good. Is it possible (dont laugh:)) to have all the knobs built in a box, seperate from the bass? connected with some kind of cable...

I have one mahogany bass with emgs on, and it sounds good to me, but i think ill go for alder next time..lighter, and in my opinion better sounding for a bassguitar. But maybe a mahogany bass is just youre cup of tee. Go for It!
I would definitely stay away from Brazillian rosewood for other reasons than looks and sound. Lets save some for guitar builders in the future!

i love the look of black limba.
Have you tried the emg booster? if not ..you should, before instaling it.
I have it on one of my 81/85 guitars and peronally i find it useless. Thats my opinion.
-
Great! i play an all maple myself..
I ment "sounds a bit Mr. Scary"
-
i like maple! its cool and its not endangered.
..but an all maple guitar with an emg 81, sounds a bit scary
Do you like it?

I work in a music store from time to time and i have blindfold tested every Fender and Squire there is. (at least in my country)
The result is alway the same..the american made Fenders do always win the test. BUT i would like to have someone from Fender tell me why i have to pay sometimes 10 times the amount to get an american made guitar. The difference is not that big.
Any suggestions to what i can tell my customers who ask that question? ..other than status and american sallary.
Why cant Fender build theire best guitars i taiwan?

is a two piece body better than a five piece? if so..maybe someone should tell Alembic and Carl Thompson

Will dissconecting the middle pup on a strat make any difference soundwise? I have dissconnected the tone pots already, and i think it sounds a bit more alive.. You have guessed it...i like Malmsteen:)
