Hi I have now routed the bridge and also drilled out the holes for the saddle so that it is now level with the top of the guitar. This has given me a string night at the 12th fret of 4mm with adjustments to the pick up hight I will probably get the strings down to 3mm

Normally I get the studs out with a piece of wood to protect the body and a flat pry bar to gently ease the stud out. Had no problems with this method if you are careful and gentle with the pry bar.

Many thanks for the advice. I plan to fix my current problem by recessing the bridge but I will practice on scrap wood first to get it right before routing the guitar

Yes the bridge is as low as it will go. Thank you for the suggestions I will have a good think about it before I do anything. Is this a common problem and how do you stop it from happening many thanks

I have now finished building my guitar. It now needs setting up. Despite checking double and triple checking my measurements I have ended with the string height far too high. It is 8/32" at the 12th fret on the bass side. Would tightening the truss rod lower the strings enough to get the correct height.

Ye the wiring can get in the way a little bit. I find rather than having a nervous breakdown fitting the pots through the holes if they are not going in walk away and leave it for a couple of hours or even till the next day then come back to it fresh. Also a long screwdriver through the f holes is good to position the jack and pots straight under the hole before pulling them through

Put the wire down the middle of the jack and tie a washer to the end to keep the wire in place then simply pull the plug into the hole. Put the washer and nut over the wire and when they are tight on the plug just let the wire loose and pull it through the f hole. Use the wire to keep the jack in place until the washer and nut are tight. Hope this helps.

Not sure If I'm clever enough to bind the f holes but I may take your advice and paint the inside cream

I think I have worked out a method for cutting the binding rebate on a carved top but next time I will definitely cut the rebate first it will be much easier when the top is still flat.

Sounds good but never done a burst finish before so probably just stick with a solid colour. Anyone any tips for putting binding on a carved top guitar.

Thanks for the kind comments about my build. I will post further construction details and pictures as I continue the build.

I was thinking of using an antique pine stain to bring out the grain then maybe an oil finish with a dark stain on the fret board.
